[COMMENTARY] I will never, ever... · 6:56am Nov 23rd, 2014
...read a story with a main character named "Anon." Period. No big loss for you, perhaps, but here's what it tells me:
* You are creatively lazy. Seriously, finding names for a character is so terrifically easy (even for humans) that it's pretty much not worth going into.
* You haven't bothered with a competent pre-reader/editor, and increasing amounts of dreck are going to encroach on your work no matter how well intended you were at the beginning.
* You're going to lean on tropes so heavily that I could probably go to TVTropes.com and pick a bunch of tropes from a hat and have the outline of your story.
* You will probably have no other "original" characters, and the canon-based characters will be two-dimensional, relying on knowledge of the show to create the characterization for the reader.
* If you have a sex scene (and a disturbing number of the "Anon"-centric stories I've seen on this site are porn, so...yeah...) the scene will be dull, over-written, and break the basic rules of sex scenes in stories.
Amen!
