    A cover-type image, by Ruirik.

I may be replacing the current title image with this one in the near future!

    Drabble

Pegasi had a belief. It gave way to tradition, then superstition, and finally to aphorism, but it grain of truth in it persists. That you can tell all you need about someone by the sound of their wings.

Why is there no Changeling story called...

    "All Love Is Unrequited?"

Anyway, it's been a while since I made a blog post for...various life reasons. This is mostly to check in and prove that I am not actually dead. Also that I have written some 25k words of original sci-fi in a month. I am hoping I can keep this up! And give you all a story with jovial insect aliens, sassy AIs, and a mystery.

It's finally here! The cover! · 2:01pm Jun 21st, 2012

Basically, it's full of awesome and win.

(I have higher resolution versions of course, but they're not up yet)

"For eight hundred years I have hidden in the shadows of Cliffside, watching the humans grow and build with only legends and stories to tell of my presence. But now something new is stirring. Forces move in the city that may drive me into the open, and I know I would not be welcome."

An excerpt - the prologue, is available!

Edit: This is the artist's page.

Drools All Over HIs Laptop*

First I was like: :rainbowderp:
But then I was like: :pinkiehappy:
After reading that excerpt: :pinkiegasp:

This only gets better with every post about it.
-SoI

Oh. My. God.
I have only one question: will I be able to buy it at Blackwell's? Smith's? Waterstone's? ANYWHERE?!

:pinkiegasp: Ryze? Is that you?

A. Looks really good!

B. Why are you getting cover art before you have a contract with a publisher? If you submit it to a publisher now, you have to NOT show them the cover art and pretend you don't have any until after they make an offer.

I'm not going through a publisher. I'm just going to put it on Amazon (and probably iBook). Most publishers are evil, and I'd have to submit, get an agent, blah de blah things I'm not going to do when I can just put it up as an eBook and get a straight cut while retaining all rights.

187853

I started this before LoL, but I'll admit the asethetic isn't entirely unique.

187261

Amazon, when I'm done, and maybe the app store (Apple/Android), depending (I assume it'll be super easy to put it on there, it's just text after all).

This is flippin amazing. Reading the snippet once I've a free moment. Perhaps it's time to read something nonpony again? All the same, I'd love to support!

Aye. We (as in humans) have been using body paint and tattoos since at least 3000 BC if I recall my anthropology lectures right. Given that a lot of body art has roots in spiritual/religious applications, it's not surprising that tattoos frequently show up in visual depictions of mages and supernatural beings. Overlaps are bound to occur.

But as someone who's been ganked far too many times by a certain scroll-carrying lunatic :raritydespair:, I just can't see that color combination and pattern without seeing Ryze!

You have my attention, and when this is finished, you will have my money

A really interesting concept, and the prologue was delivered well. I have so many questions that I want answered now... Just how far are you into the writing process? ^_^;

Anyway, that cover art looks stunning, and now I so wish I could have a solid copy of it to put on my shelf. Not that eBooks aren't all well and good, but you just can't beat holding the binding and flipping the pages.

Frankly the quality of mass produced books isn't particularly good these days, let alone vanity press. You can get high quality bookbinding done but it's kind of expensive (like, $50+ per book).

And how far I am - nearly done! I'm on the penultimate chapter, or possibly the last chapter (depending on how things pan out). It's still going to need polishing passes, but it won't require major editing because my livereading team keeps me honest.

Think of a publisher as a mod who can put your story right into the Featured box if he likes it.
If fan-fiction followed by an ebook works, that would be awesome - so I hope you'll let us know how it works out.

And that looks awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy!
