Seriously, where did all the toilet paper go?

((My graduate training is in epidemiology and public health, and I'd like to think I know whereof I speak. This will be off-topic—possibly a more inane blog post than I've ever made here. You know what it's about.))

And to those of you who know what's going on, I am not at all being facetious.

    On Failure

If there was ever any doubt that I'm still a terrible author . . .

I thought I understood how to write characters, Rarity most of all . . .

    Why didn't I catch something so obvious? . . .

    Do I know what a good story is anymore? . . .

So much of future stories depends on what happens in this one; what does it mean when I got this one so wrong? . . .

Nothing to Fear: The Single · 10:27pm Oct 28th, 2014

For the two-and-a-half people out there who care, I've made a musical adaptation of the song that was sung by the Ponytones in Nothing to Fear: A Nightmare Night Story. If you haven't read that story already, check the story tagged to this blog post.

Here's the song. It's on Pony.fm. About two minutes long.

I know everybody has their own idea for what the song should sound like. Sorry if I'm breaking your headcanon, but this was the tune that was stuck in my head the entire time I was writing this story. And yes, it is an original composition. If you want to put lyrics to music, the piano score is standing in for vocals. I'm a guy, so I can't exactly cover more than two parts of the Ponytones.

This. Is. So. Freakin'. Awesome!

2561195 You would say that; you're one of the people who cares!

I actually had never heard of Hush Little Baby before you said my song had that vibe to it. I kinda like mine better.

Then again, I would say that; I composed it!:rainbowderp:

So. Because I care, I'm incapable of telling you the truth? :fluttershysad:

I like yours better, too, but the way the words were structured just put me in mind of that song.

2561942 Sorry! Everyone has their own idea for what a song should sound like, and there's nothing wrong with that! Lyrics alone don't make music, so the brain fills in the blanks. My brain just so happens to be swimming with a bunch of my own tunes, and this was the one that came out of it.

Celestia knows how many other songs on this site I've put my own melody to:ajbemused:. It just so happens that this one song is one I wrote the words to, so I couldn't resist toying with the harmony, percussion, and bass lines and making an actual song out of it. In the end, the song is still a brainbarf, though; it just so happens to be polished.

Maybe I should have said that you're just too nice to be mean to this song. Sorry if I offended you; I'm really bad (like, REALLY bad) at reading social situations. :fluttershyouch:

Trust me, I'm way worse. You've said nothing that requires an apology, however. I wish I was capable of making music in some way, and I'm envious of those with that talent.

2563840 Y'know, I could say the same thing about your drawing talent. :raritywink: I've forayed into digital art before. It didn't end well.

With drawing, anyone can learn a degree of control through practice. With music, if you don't have a good ear - which I don't - it's nigh-impossible.
