So, is anybody excited for the new season? So am I... mostly. I'm also a bit apprehensive. And if you've looked on EQD recently, you'll have seen the leaks from the production team regarding the opener.
So, it looks like Spike. And Twilight. In a library. They're finally bringing Twilight back, even if we had to wait a whole season, so there's cause for celebration!Except not quite. Jayson Thiessen over on Twitter has dropped hints at a 'dark mirror' universe where Luna is evil and Twilight is the bearer of the element of Magic. What could this mean?
So, yeah. I honestly am of about five different minds on this. On one hand, there's the issue of continuity; most of the episodes in season one have a pretty clear order to them, and I was especially impressed by how Carrot Top Of The Line flowed into I Really Like Her Mane, but this just seems like a Big Lipped Alligator episode in the context of the rest of the series so far.
Then there's the issue of Twilight. Either they'll make her a pretty realistic character, or utterly flanderize her into somepony who just needed a little friendship to not be completely insane. There are a bunch of different ways her characterization could go, and most of them don't end well.
And there's the other elements. If Trixie isn't Magic in that universe, what about Raindrops, Carrot Top, ect.? Will someone else be... Laughter? (Oh gog, I hope it isn't Pinkie Pie. Ugh, she's so annoying.) And if there's a different set of bearers, what role will Alt!verse Ditzy, Cheerilee, or Lyra play?
And then there's the problem of Corona and Luna. Will they both be evil? Will Corona be normal Celestia? How 'dark' will this 'dark mirror' be, exactly?
Basically, there are a lot of ways this could go right, and even more it could go wrong. I guess we'll have to see the episodes to find out, though I hope I'm just getting worked up over nothing and the team will keep doing their usual exemplary job.
Well, back to work on DIM. I'm just excited to get to the chapter with Cheerilee in Le-Koro. It'll be fun to torture her with treespeak!
I think you're just making a big fuss over nothing. I've seen dozens of fanfics that tackled this same concept. Most might be trash, but there have been some real gems. If a few talented fans can do it right, I have full faith in the show's production crew. They've never let us down before.
I especially recommend the works of LyraHyperHearts, the dude wrote a great take on an AU Boast Busted, even if the title was rather uncreative in only replacing the "d" with "rs". His stab at a variant LNLD was also pretty good, if a little short, cramming what took the actual show 4 episodes into a mere 36,577 words. Plus I hear he's planing to start up an open continuity project. Think I might just join up with that, got me some nifty ideas for a story where Pinkie Pie teaches Dash how to play well intentioned pranks that make everyone laugh, so that Rainbow won't be such a big jerk when Gilda shows up.
183201 I really hope you're right. I've had bad experiences with shark-jumping of my favorite series before, but the Team hasn't steered us wrong yet. Here's to hoping!
Hmm, I'll have to look at those; they might be interesting. I think I saw 'Boast Busters' somewhere, maybe EQD, but I didn't read it. If I remember correctly, Trixie is a simple street magician? And if this open continuity project is as good as you say, I'll definitely have to take a look at that!
Ooh, your story sounds good, too; it might be interesting to see how things go down with Nicer!Dash and Gilda.
Oh, yeah! I remember that odd 'Boast Busters'. Man, they seriously dumbed down Snips and Snails.
An open project, eh? I do have an idea on how to adopt 'Ill Communication' into something more in line...
