Ghost of Clopfic Future · 11:34pm Oct 21st, 2014
Well, it only took three months, but I finally finished A Single Step 2: This Time There's a Penis! the new chapter of Persona.
Now that I've finally, seemingly, kicked my writer's block to the curb, I find myself thinking of the future. More specifically, there are a couple of things I'd like you guys to know.
First of all, up until now, the chapters of Persona have more-or-less followed the same episodic pattern. Each one is basically its own story, focusing around a particular assignment of Naamari's. This is how I originally envisioned the story; if anything, the overarching plotline, with Naamari's character development and the eventually conclusion of the story, came about later. As I have it planned now, the next three chapters will follow the same basic pattern (albeit with different characters, obviously), and then the story will conclude with a three-part finale (and possible epilogue). This means there will be about ten chapters total.
The reason I'm telling you all of this is because one of my big worries is that the story will become too formulaic. Too predictable and boring. You guys seem to be enjoying it so far, if the vote ratio and comments are any indication. But still, I felt the need to give you guys a heads up on what to expect.
Which leads me to the second thing:
You may have noticed a certain element to the recent chapter that... well, let's just say that Freud would approve. I was a little worried about this, since futa is a thing that people tend to either love or hate (oddly enough, I'm somewhere in the middle), and I hated to think that I was springing something on people (literally?). Though, to my credit, there's at least some logic to futa in a story with a changeling, as opposed to a lot of futa stories, where it's usually something like: "Twilight randomly discovers kinky new magic" or "Hey, guess who secretly has a penis!"
I'm not gonna lie; one of the things that drew me to writing a story about a changeling was the way it would enable me to write multiple pairings and various sexual situations under a single narrative umbrella with little to no cognitive dissonance. And that's not going to change. I feel the need to warn you that the next few chapters may also include some subject matter that people may not be "into". One will feature a M/M pairing. Another one features an incestuous pairing.
Now, I know what you're thinking. You can't throw a rock on this site without it hitting an incest fic or something along those lines. And then the rock would probably ricochet off and hit another one. But still, I don't want to unpleasantly surprise you fine people. Perhaps I should post a warning in an author's note at the beginning of the appropriate chapters?
All I can say is: Trust me. There's a point to all of this. I'm very excited about the conclusion to this story, and hopefully it'll all pay off then.
I'm still laboring under the sisyphean hope of finishing this story by the end of the year, which means I'm gonna have to haul ass...
... which is why it's probably not a smart move on my part to have a different story presently in the works. Don't worry, though, it's just a one shot, based on a certain recently released movie about rainbows that may or may not rock (they totally do). I'm trying to keep a straight face when I say my goal is to have it ready by the 28th, when said movie comes out on DVD. As much as I love Persona, I think I could use a break after the past few months of staring at the same Word document with drool running down my chin. After this one-shot, it'll just be me and Naamari, riding like Thelma and Louise towards the canyon of pretentious horseporn goodness.
Anyways, I've already rambled enough. Thanks for your patience and attention.
I'll admit, futa isn't my thing. But unlike its use in so many clopfics on this site, it made sense to the story here. That certainly gives it a pass in my book, even if it doesn't really appeal to me.
I wasn't going to say anything, but...
