The bad news is my computer got attacked by a bunch of spamware and viruses. The good news is I refreshed my Microsoft which got rid of them, and my computer is now back to normal. The even worse news is that me refreshing set my computer back to how it was before I bought it, deleting most of my programs and like word. The program a good portion of my life relies on.
Luckily for me I had bite me saved on google drive. Now all I need to do is buy Microsoft office again and I should be fine. But I still lost a lot of important stuff like my resume and a few other story ideas I had started.
Ah well, work for bite me should continue as soon as I get office back. Which is hopefully today.
that's a good point of time to start thinking about backups, isn't it?
get an external drive, keep cd/dvd-images and activation codes where you find them, backup everything (freefilesync is a pretty easy to use tool for quickly synchronizing folders/files/drives. maybe combine it with truecrypt if you want to).
if windows gives you the finger or your current main drive dies, the best way to start anew is having a copy of everything you had before.
(also if you want to be really safe, keep a second backup. every drive will fail at some point, including backup drives)
2506095 yeah its kind of funny considering I've had this program popping up on my computer for months asking if I want to backup my files.

window's own backup service? yeah its not a bad idea to have that configured as well.
preferably at a weekly rhythm, followed by a backup to external devices.
i get to see like 4 posts/threads a week about someone saying he's got a hard drive failure or windows itself biting the dust (which doesn't seem to happen that often but still), resulting in data loss and hassle to get their stuff back. made me wary, i don't need that kind of trouble.
what av program where you using? also maybe install an adblocker etc to close that gateway
If I might make a recommendation? Don't purchase another copy of Microsoft Office. Google OpenOffice instead, and start using that. Does everything Microsoft Office does, but it's freeware.
