My Little Monster High 2: The Search for More Money · 5:02pm Sep 28th, 2014
With EQG2 being leaked onto YouTube, I was able to see just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
Overall, it was somewhat better than the first, but still pretty bad. What I liked and didn't can be summed up with a bunch of bullet points:
Pros
****
-Story seems to have a good bit more thought put into it, less story-breaking flaws
-Sunset Shimmer actually having character, amazing. Still a huge waste of "Celestia's past student" though.
-Flash Sentry having a little bit more character...but still mostly "CuteFace McHunkyBoy"
-The songs didn't suffer from "Why is there a song here"-syndrome like some in the first movie did
-Trixie and CMC actually had a purpose instead of being pointless filler/pandering
Cons
****
-Still horrible "human" designs
-Still full of formulaic forgettable pop songs
-Still trying to force a romance between Twilight and Brad
-Loaded with even more background pony and "fan favorite" pandering
-Pinkie still screeching half her lines and being a LOLRANDUMB comic relief.
-RD being incredibly topcunt for no apparent reason, even before the Dazzlings
-Again, the villains get caught up in a school event when they don't really need to. It helps, but still seems somewhat contrived.
-And said villains' plans are the generic "take over the world" crap
-Villains themselves felt kinda bland and generic. "The 3 Evil Stooges", with the evil leader, uninterested second one, and "Pinkie ripoff comic relief" third one.
-And the orange-haired one's voice was too ridiculous to be taken seriously.
-Twilight is able to SCIENCE the portal open again, completely retconning one of the major pressures of the last movie
-And again, the other 5 aren't allowed to go because the story calls for only Twilight and Spike going
-Even less "pony world" in this movie than the last one, making it feel even more contrived that Twilight is going back yet again instead of using the Twilight that is already in Monster High World
-The other 5 seem to have mostly forgotten about all of the "friendship" stuff they learned in the previous movie which, according to this movie, only took place maybe a week prior.
Not as bad as the first movie, but still very disappointing in that instead of a creative fantasy story, we got another cliche highschool story crammed full of fanservice and formulaic pop songs.
Oh well. Now back to our regularly scheduled ponies. Until next year's EQG movie.
And no, I haven't stopped writing. I'm just a lazyass.
Amen sir, thank you. you have watched a movie I know never need to see.
I agree with you, hope this thing don't affect the series, especially with Flash Shitty.
I could almost excuse Hasbro apeing Monster High to try and grab more money...
If only the character designs didn't make my eyes bleed
And would they stop trying to shove a teenaged romance into Twilight's face every chance they get? No one likes the walking 2x4 with blue hair.
