Promoting a thing that some people I know are working on... · 8:41am Sep 28th, 2014
Anyone remember Fimfiction Drama? I initially figured that he had the right idea; what, with keeping up on drama and such. Well, we all saw how quickly that prospect tanked, didn't we? I mean, if I ever turned my rants toward someone in particular on the site that's starting shit, I would probably get a letter from the mods telling me to cut it the fuck out or else I'd get banned, or something. And believe me, there are a few people I could name who I'd love to haze for a while...
But, I digress. The reason I mentioned that guy is because I've been made aware of an offsite blog that seems to be trying to do the same thing that he was doing, for the most part. They call it "Foal Free Press", or just "F2P", as an abbreviation. (Yeah, I know that also means "free to play", but if you think about it, it makes a weird kind of sense.) Right now, it just looks to be a place that posts updates on any drama or news that they hear about, and a few reviews or opinion blogs too. I've already sent them a couple of my other blogs to have on their site before, and it looks like they got permission from RainbowBob to post his featured box reviews, too. It seems like a cool enough place, I suppose. Might be worth keeping up with, if any of you are still interested in that sort of thing.
Also, little sidenote, I have another little rant planned for later. Don't know if I'll have it up before my next round of Feature Box reviews, but I'll try, at least. It's in regards to the users that elicit huge numbers of "pity followers", and just users in general that use less-than-respectable means to garner views and follows, while the actual writers need to work harder for the recognition they may or may not deserve. I think you all know at least a few people that I could be talking about.
Until then.

Site bookmarked for later.
I hate those people.
"I'll follow you if you follow me!" What if I don't consider your work worthy of a follow?
"Hey gaiz, I just need 37 more followers to reach 300!" And I care because?
"I'm new and I need followers!" I weep for you.

I do not care for them either. Pretty much any means of promoting people is a little dubious to me, unless it was actually warranted; like, say, if a good writer gets a promotion from someone with more followers, then that's something I can easily understand. But I've also seen people promote other friends that do pretty much nothing. I understand wanting to support any friends, or maybe the user is new and has yet to fully establish him or herself, but if I don't see any reason to follow someone, then I won't follow them. I only follow people whose work I admire, or are people I highly respect. Rarely do I make exceptions to that.
They seem to treat followers like candy, really. Or I suppose, one could also say that people can be far too generous with the follows they give out, as well. If you're following that poor sap that does jack shit but treat his/her profile for a fanfiction writing site as his/her own personal fucking MySpace or Twitter page, then why not also follow the actual writers that deserve it, too? It's something I can actually understand, humans being creatures of empathy for the most part, but that doesn't make it any less stupid. I actually feel kind of bad for a lot of those people that do so, because the "author" is just baiting them in and taking advantage of their gullibility and kindness, because they're just a bunch of goddamned attention whores.
I'll get into the specifics and detail in the blog, but, I think you can see where I'm coming from a little bit.

Hey gaiz I follow you so can you follow me, because I'm new and I need 968 more followers to have 1000!
This is the best site to keep an eye on since FIMFiction.
