100 Likes for Scent of Prey! My thoughts on it, and where I'm going. · 4:18pm Sep 21st, 2014

So it hasn't been a week yet since I posted up my story, and it's already hit 100 likes. I definitely owe thanks to a lot of people starting of course with Aetherpony, who gave his blessing to this project to a newbie writer. Maybe he just didn't care or maybe he thought it was going to be good, and having someone else do it would save him the trouble.

Nah he probably just didn't care.

In any case I do care, and it means a lot to me. He could have been a jerk, and told me to think up my own story, or told me to try something original and NOT make my first story a clopfic. Yeah, yeah that happens an awful lot around here, and I'm painfully aware of that. I'm really sorry my first story was about a human and a pony banging! It's just that I've wanted to write it ever since I read "Wild Rose" five months ago!

If it isn't clear enough already, I love that story! I actually was so turned off by it the first I read it, I stopped reading after the third paragraph. Stayed away from clop for awhile too. Whatever possessed me to give it another try a week later, allowed me to make it all the way through, and I was struck by how intense it was. The second person narrator being directed on the pony and describing her slow descent into madness was, and still is the most awesomely messed up thing I've ever read! I've seen similar writing tricks by a host of different writers designed to wind up the reader, but his is novel. The closest I can really compare it to is Rarity from Ribbons and Lace, getting slowly more daring as she winds herself up over Fluttershy. I threw that story a like too, though Fluttershy did kind of drag the experience down a bit for me. Rarity was written perfectly!

I also need to give props to the weirdly named artist ∀. I may have really liked "Wild Rose," but I had no idea how I'd write my own version of it until I saw the NSFW version of the header image I used on this story. I mentioned in the comments, but I'll say it again here, the idea of the chase in chapter 5 which formed the basis for the entire story, came from looking at that image. The image of her cornered and looking up in fear at whoever was chasing her struck a chord with me. The story concept haunted me for months and would not go away. When he recently made the SFW version, I took it as a sign to get off my ass and just do it already.

I had early concepts of a direct sequel to "Wild Rose," set after the fact and focused on Roseluck's and Anon's relationship as a couple. They'd talk a little, and he'd go chasing after her in a similar sequence to Chapter Five and then they would bang. I never really liked the idea and discarded it.

Then I read "Gentleman for Mares." What a great universe it is! It isn't just that the sex flows freer then at Mardi Gras, but that it's all so positive and uplifting! If there is one thing DEL stands for in his writing, it is the idea that humans are not terrible, unfeeling monsters like the one's in "Avatar." I respect the hell out of that, and endorse the portrayal of humans as equal partners in a relationship with ponies. I also endorse the egalitarian stance toward gender politics, and the interesting insights that can be gleaned from life in a matriarchal society.

Demon Eyes Larl is awesome, but you already knew that. Thanks for allowing people to freely write in your universe without a bunch of strict rules, and not being a jerk. Kudos sir!

Lastly I should recognize Crowley. I don't share much in common with his writing style, but the way I configured TSoP, was directly inspired by his works. Being able to release a story all at once feels good, and gives readers a quick fix without the wait. More importantly for me, it gives me a chance to control all aspects of the stories production, and hunt down the badly written stuff and change it without massive rewrites. I will one day sit down and do a monthly updated story in excess of 100,000 words, but not today. I'm just too green a writer.

Thank you DE_K, Shadow of the Night, Shazam Jr, Benny and lines and stuff for putting me on follow. I'm still working on new ideas for stories, but I do have a few general guidelines I'm operating under.

* I prefer stories involving humans and ponies.

* I do also like lesbian ships, but not as much

* I probably won't ever write a straight ship between two ponies.

* I won't ever write rape or abuse into a story. Ever. Fallout Equestria gave me my fill of equine suffering to last a lifetime. For the record, if you are into this sort of stuff, I don't judge you.

* No Futa, tentacles or really anything that breaks basic logic or physics. Unless it involves Pinkie Pie; she can do whatever she wants. Chapter 4 of TSoP was really pushing me to the breaking point as far as realism.

No timeline on a new story. I'm still shocked that this story got as many friendly and supportive comments as it did. I was so terrified at the idea of submitting this story, that I let that fear drive the scene with Richard standing in front of Roseluck's house.

When I break ground on a new story, I'll write another blog. Until then stay classy San Diego! I look forward to writing for you again soon.
