Chapter 27: Search for Succession – Six Fated by Choice

Sorry for the wait! I will try to get these chapters out faster, and hopefully get back to the once a week (or maybe more) structure. But I am being very productive and I'm making some great progress on future chapters!

This is one of my favorite chapters to write, I finally get to cover more show-oriented stuff, and I really love that I was able to cover both some more insight into Loose Change's character as well as the utterly ridiculous theories near the end.

I think so far, this is my second-most favorite chapter to write and read, trailing behind Chapter 10. Chapter 10 really is one of my favorites, because it gives a greater insight into the Loose Change process, as well as possesses some of the craziest theories and even crazier justifications for them. And as this chapter follows the Chapter 10 structure closely (almost that I would call it its direct follow-up), I'm a big fan of this one too!

I'll be covering some of the background in writing stuff and inspirations below (as seen by the title), but there's gonna be some spoilers of Chapter 27, so read it once you've caught up!

On the backstory in the beginning, I added it in as a sort of explanation to how Loose Change ended up this way. Of course, I didn't add this to make you guys sympathize with her, she is, even by my own admission, kind of a terrible pony (especially with that remark in Chapter 19, which she did technically apologize for, but still made it difficult for me to write), but to help gain some kind of understanding to why she's like this.

There have been hints throughout the chapters leading up towards this one that something like this might've occurred in her past, especially in the end of Chapter 26; that her hatred towards Celestia and unicorns might have a personal reason.

But while this does explain a few things, like her hatred for magical horses and subsequent superiority complex for earth ponies (as a personal comeuppance of sorts), her jealousy towards Twilight and some of the reasons why she might be motivated to write this essay in the first place, it doesn't explain everything. Her irrational racism towards other animals, her belief in twisted logic and theories, her crazed arrogance.

Yes, some major parts of her character were formed by that experience, but I won't go as far to say that that event was completely responsible for turning her into the pony she is today. It would provide such an easy means to justify herself, which she doesn't really need. Even despite that event, I want to get across that while she is hurt and in pain, still choosing to carry her anger over the incident with her, she's not exactly a "woobie", and still is kind of awful and crazy in her own kinda way. And the mistake she made in applying (I'm sorry younger Loose Change, but the requirements were clearly stated in the title) seems like the kind of thing she would do.

So it does explain some parts to her character which is why I felt it was a worthy addition. Hopefully you all agree too and enjoyed reading it!

And I must admit, I loved writing the HYPER CONSPIRACY EX section, but everything that was achieved from that can only be said to have come from standing on the shoulders of giants. (sorry, couldn't resist that Stephen Hawking reference)

In all seriousness, I did draw some heavy influences from other sources. I tried to add my own unique spin on things (if you notice carefully, just like in Chapter 10, Loose Change has a habit that when she creates connections, she just keeps going when she could've made her connection way earlier on. I think that was most noticeable in the Rainbow Dash and Rarity sections.), but I've got to give credit where credit is due! (as you probably see now from the title of this blogpost)

I wanted to pay tributes to some really hilarious comedy from others! And I couldn't think of a better place to make this joke than in a conspiracy theorist's essay! And also, I wanted to take the opportunity to place those ideas into the universe of pony! (I suppose you really can ponify everything) And the leaps in logic in general felt like the perfect kinda thing that Loose Change would use herself.

I think in the last video especially, you can see where I heavily drew inspiration and phrasing from, especially in the Pinkie Pie section. But dunkey nails the delivery so much better than I ever could! Think of him voicing those lines when you read!

You can definitely see all the heavy influences, and I give full credit of this section and its jokes to them! This chapter wouldn't have been one of my favorites without their genius! That film and that YouTuber have some of the most brilliant moments of comedy that I've ever seen, and I encourage you to check 'em both out! Support the both of them if you can!

And for The Echelon, that's just Equestria's version of the Illumanati. You can't have a crazy conspiracy theory with a secret organization controlling the world, right? Of course, that secret organization is controlled by Celestia too. And they'll be back for more, don't you worry!
