Q&A Blog 02: Princess Luna · 5:43pm Aug 25th, 2014
NSS: Today, Princess Luna graces this tiny blog with Her presence!
Princess Luna says: Be wary, Mr. Subtle. Thy nose is in danger of turning brown.
NSS: I’m just happy to have finally patched things up with you, Princess.
Princess Luna says: ‘Tis not of thy doing. We have decided to contribute to this endeavor for the sake of the story, so long as thy questions remain sensible and proper. Twilight Sparkle has also promised to cease repeating ‘please’ in Our presence. We had no idea one word could be so irritating.
From Merne23: "For Princess Luna, Her Moonlit Eminence: In regards to your advisers and generals, how forceful did you have to be most of the time?"
Princess Luna replies: Well asked, friend Merne. Thy question is sound, but we feel a need to explain before giving a yes or no.
While true that We have lead Equestrians in battle many times before our banishment, much has changed in means, organization and doctrine of fighting forces. We were simply unequipped to lead such a force in this day and age, and left much of the strategic picture in the hooves to the capable officers in the EUP. Among them were ponies like General Manifold and Colonel Stratus. Thusly, We put faith in their plans and vision, of course with review and Our suggestions, and put Our talents to use elsewhere.
Though strategic decision making is not the primary feature of Valor is Magic, we must note that without Stratus’s command of the high altitude combatants Equestria could not have contested the airspace above the city with any real hope of success. While Nova Drive’s account of his reprimand is true to the events, ‘twas the only time in Our experience with him that his behavior and performance were anything less than stellar. Even in Our long experience, We could not have hoped to have a pony better suited to that position at that time.
Others made great contributions as well, and Twilight has done quite well thus far in attempting to make mention of such ponies. It was in these that we put Our trust, and that trust was soundly rewarded. Owing to both the talents and professionalism of the ponies as well as Our choosing not to micromanage the command structure, there was little need for Us to be forceful with our officers.
Director Petronel, on the other hoof, was required by his position to point out holes in our plans, play Discord’s advocate, and say all of the things that We did not wish to hear. As he stated in an earlier chapter, he was not appointed to be a yes pony. Most of our discussions by his telepathy spell were adversarial.
Princess Luna
Diarch of Equestria
Twilight tells me that Princess Luna withstood four days of regular bombardment of “pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease...” before she finally gave in. Sometimes, it takes a princess to trump a princess, but you have to give credit where credit is due: I don’t think I could have lasted an hour under that kind of attack. Way to go, Princess Luna.
I love the feel, I love the thought, I love the aesthetics, I'm looking forward to the next chapter, you done good
