Father's Day · 7:09am Jun 16th, 2014
I couldn't have asked for a better mentor and father growing up. He helped show me the value in being honest, the outdoors, and the magical world of electronics. We played and built things together. He was absolutely amazing as a dad. He would even let me disassemble just about anything so I could learn how they worked (even when I couldn't put them back together). We went to Disneyland a lot too, it was honestly some of the best years of my life.
My first PC building experience was when we assembled an Amiga 1000 from spare parts he bought for repairs (that he never used). We ordered ROMS and kick start floppies, as well as a few other things to get it working. It was setup in a 19" rack for HAM Radio equipment for a while before I got my hands on an official chassie. It was the most satisfying PC building experience I ever had when this jumble of electronics and wires that we slapped together actually worked.
He worked tirelessly for many years, making sure there was money available to buy his kids equipment to better their education. He bought me several computers in the early 90's; even when others would criticize him for spending so much money on it at the time. He got so much joy out of seeing what his kids were doing.
He was there to help pick me up when I fell, but most importantly he knew when to let me learn from my own mistakes. He truly was a great man, and my only regret was that I could only spend twenty years of my life with him.
When I realized that was the case there was so little time left to do much of anything. So, if there is anything I would like to say about today is that you should enjoy the company and love of your parents when they are around. Because life is unpredictable, and they may be gone sooner than you expect.
Beautiful...
