Chapter 4 of A World, Reflected; the Secret Shipfic Folder; and X-Men: Days of Future Past. · 7:34pm Jun 10th, 2014

Chapter 4: A Sister, Met is up and published in A World Reflected. I was deeply worried that throughout the shocking revelation scene, John Cleese would step into the middle of my fic waving his arms and shouting "Stop it, stop it, it's getting too silly!" My prereaders assured me that it worked just fine - that it was surreal instead of 'wait, what' - so now I just have to submit to the opinions of a wider audience.

Yesterday was quite pleasant. I went with my boyfriend and his roommate to play Twilight Sparkle's Secret Shipfic Folder, a thing of utter wonder and beauty mixed with sheer wrongness and just a dash of Friendship is Witchcraft. Seriously, guys, if you love/hate terrible shipfics, you need to look at this game.

I made a valiant effort, scoring the goal card Friendship is Benefits! by getting the entire Mane Six in a love hexagon, but my boyfriend managed to in his words 'break the wrong-o-meter' by having Aloe and Lotus fight crime alongside their Changeling doubles and scoring the "have all the Changelings in play" card. This after he shipped a changeling 'Twilight Sparkle' with Queen Chrissy as 'Prince Dusk Shine' to score a "ship someone with their genderbent self" card AND a "make Twilight a Princess" card at the same time.

I freaking love that game. "It's awful, you'll like it."

We then went to see X-Men: Days of Future Past. Which was a good movie. It was a REALLY good movie; my Marvel Comics geekery aside - seeing Wolverine doubletake when he didn't set of a metal detector is always cute - it dealt with themes of hope and despair, personal consequence, addiction, and was basically a good, dramatic adventure story, well told. About my only problem with it was not enough Storm and not enough Bishop.

As with all Marvel movies, stay until after the credits for the stinger. Seriously.

Oh, and, word of advice; if you're in Downtown Berkeley and you're craving Chinese food, don't go to Little Hunan. How they managed to make my BF's Salt and Pepper Chicken taste bland I don't know, but that would have been forgivable if the staff hadn't tried to bully my boyfriend's roommate out of the room because she hadn't ordered anything - what with being on a diet and treating us to the meal anyway. She, by the way, had been a loyal customer there for years before this happened and was surprised at how empty the place was at dinnertime. We were not at all surprised by this at the end of the meal.

Other than that? Pretty fun time.
