Oh, sweet Celestia... Where to start? Initial Reaction. (So much spoilers) · 7:02pm May 10th, 2014
So, I just finished watching the finale. I've still got tears on my cheeks from the joy I felt during that last song. So much world building. So much confirmation of my ideas, so many more ideas to come. Just... So much awesome.
Okay... Calm down. Where to start?
Disclaimer: These are all off the cuff spewing out of thoughts after immediately finishing the finale. In other words, they will be changing. How much depends on what.
First: The first song. I'm glad I was sitting down for it. Her hurt, the pain of feeling inadequate. I've felt that a lot. That song touched me. And the princesses' response was just as amazing. I think I have two new favorite feel songs from the MLP library.
Second: Tirek, Tirac, whatever. Such a great villain. Giving confirmation of some of my headcanon from Mare in the Moon, from Lost Past, from so much that I've thought. Earth pony magic. Pegasi magic. Unicorn magic. All of it awesome. Also a great look at Tartaros/Tartarus. It's a prison. Devious, yes, and that Discord and *cough* villain knew each other back in the day says something about the history of Equestria. I'll be exploring that a bit in a later worldbuilding blog, I think. One connected to Bright Light for a Dark Time.
Third: Twilight's Celestial Mane - gaining more power grants that, apparently. She's got a long way to go, but it was gorgeous and awesome and I want more!
Fourth: The art and designs were amazing! Though I did feel like I was watching an anime fight scene there for a bit. But on the whole, this episode had some of the most stunning artwork I've seen yet in the show. Simply gorgeous.
Fifth: The Library. Luna save my heart... That hurt. So much has happened there, so many memories, so many good times, so much lost now. She'll never be able to run her hoof over the walls as she leaves. It was taken from her too soon and too quickly. That's going to go into Frozen Past, I think. A small bit, maybe a sentence or two.
Sixth: The replacement library. I was happy that the castle reflects Twilight's home. It looks like a crystalline version the library. Like the Crystal Tower in the Crystal Empire. That gave me some ideas immediately about where the Crystal Empire came from and where the tower and its power came from as well.
Seventh: AppleShy moment. 'Daw! *squee* I has a sad... *cries*
Eighth: Discord. I'm not sure how I feel about this, honestly. On the one hand, he could have snapped Tirek/Tirac back to Tartaros and be done with it without even confronting him. On the other, it shows there are clear limits to his powers and what he can do with them.
Ninth: TwiDash moment. *bask*
Tenth: Cutie Marks and their ties to magic and talents. I went over this a little bit in the villain section (#2), but I feel now that I should expand on it a little bit. The magic of ponies is tied to their cutie marks in some way, shape and form. Whether their talents are magical is another thing altogether. I think, perhaps their talents are not as talent is a type of knowledge and no kind of magic can grant knowledge without effort on the part of the one gaining it. Their magic gives them an edge at their skills.
Eleventh: The villain's destructive nature. I do not think that however the hell you spell his name, gained the knowledge of how to use those powers that he absorbed. What he gained was fuel for his own magic, which is far, far more destructive than constructive and could not immediately turn his power over into doing other things. He would have to spend time and effort to learn how to do those things and Twilight Sparkle did not give him the chance to do so. Nor do I think that he would have had the motivation to do so. I have a feeling that his rage and thirst for vengeance would have kept him from sitting down to actually learn how to control his powers.
Twelfth: History. Okay, so apparently G1 is at least semi-canon. Maybe. I'm still sweeping this problem under the rug until we get more confirmation or not of what it means. But, with the concurrence of Tirek (I'm just gonna use that) being around the same time period of Discord, that puts all of these events back around 1,000 years ago. What happened then that caused all of this to happen? It must have been a major catastrophe. I'll have to think about this and see whether or not it impacts any of my headcanons. I don't think so... but I could be wrong.
Thirteenth: Ideas. This episode opened up a whole plethora of ideas that I can use in the future for headcanons like Lost Past and Mare in the Moon as well as some ideas on how to write Discord somewhat out of the picture for The Wisdom of Dogs. Or at least let him be less discordy. Also, Mare in the Moon, as it's undergoing a re-write, will be adjusted again for this. But, as I haven't started to re-write it yet and am only currently writing out the blueprints currently and history/family/etc information for these characters, this finale gave me so many ideas.
Fourteenth: Still going. Good lord. The tap just isn't stopping today. Actually, I think that's all for now.
My heart shook as the library where many of Twilight's friends and memories were made... ;_;

That's where she met all of her friends for the very first time. The first time all six of them gathered together in the same place at the same time to talk to each other. It's where their friendship began.
I need a drink. Maybe I can ferment this orange juice. With my mind.

Rather not... I need a happy right now. I've had too much sad in the last couple of weeks. I'ma go clean house now. School's over. I'm done with college. I've got my dream job. I'm working with people that I love like family. My mother is travelling 1200 miles to come see me. I'm writing three stories that I love the heck out of. I'm going to be happy.
I refuse to let this hurt right now. I'll let it hurt later, when I can write about it in depth and let it out. For now, I have a bandaid over it. A bandaid with three butterflies. Fluttershy will keep it from hurting too much.
I know how that feels. These are the best story arc episodes I've seen in all 4 seasons. Good build up and a great pay off. There's so much feels in this; the songs, the betrayal and the library blowing up. The fight was epic and the mythos and lore keep expanding. There's just so much win in this, I don't know if they could top it off in the next season at 2015 or not.
I hope they do.

I just let the pain out recently...

You're in a great place. Stay there.
I cried at the end of this finale. That song...that feeling of shining by just being who you are...damn I want that. I share your feelings on the first song too. That line about not finding your way in a future you can't see really hit home.
This episode was fantastic. This series is fantastic. I don't think I'll ever forget what I just finished watching.

Also working on new cover art for Mare in the Moon.

It makes me happy.

That story was the first thing I thought of when I saw the first unicorn lose his cutie mark. The art is still a work in progress, I assume? It looks great and dramatic, but nothing of Trixie but her flank might attract the wrong audience...

Hum. I have all of Trixie in the picture, actually. I wonder if the side of the picture include is cutting it off. Here's a direct link: Picture
Yep. Tested it with a smaller window. It definitely cuts off everything but her flank when viewed like that. I may actually use it like it is, actually. I've always been a fan of simple artwork. Adding more to it might make it too busy.
