Why it's on hold · 12:26am Apr 28th, 2014
I know a few of you are wondering why "I'm Not a Mare" is on hiatus. Well, how can I say this? It's becoming harder and harder to write it. After the first time I release chapter two and it just want down hill and I deleted and wrote a new one. Even with what I thought was a good chapter two. It seems like this story is just going down hill and fast. Most of the comments are about something wrong or I didn't write something out the way they thought it should be. Those comments out number any of the helpful or nice ones. I just find it hard to write when it feels like I can make anyone happy with my story. I know it's such a silly reason to put it on hiatus, but I just don't want to let any more readers down. I know a few of you are going to comment something like, 'Don't let it get you down. Write what makes you happy." I just want to say sorry to those who are waiting for the next chapter. I'm just working on some side projects in hopes to build my skills up and level up as a writer so I can bring you a better story.
Understandable. Especially, the impetus for a story tends to slow down a lot when one takes weeks or months to actually flesh out the idea, as the original drive and ideas tend to be lost in the chaotic mess of the brain when not written down. It might help to write a general outline and keep a notebook handy for whatever comes into your head. I know I ought to (but don't).
Anywhooves, do what you feel is necessary. No pressure.
Don't know why but reading this my mind instantly jumped to the thought of, you could try to do a collaboration with another author...no idea why it went there. But I just thought you should know. I really liked first chapter and have not had a chance to read either copy of your second one to date. Keep strong Redbook! you will find the path with that story, it may just not come to you right now! Focus on what burns your inner muse's fire!
Isnt there a quote about this? Something about trying to please everyone will please nobody.
I find it helps to have a good editor and spend some time reviewing their changes and work on understanding why the did what they did. Some mechanical things are easy to learn, like forgetting a word or proper punctuation. Story flow and pacing on the other hand are not obvious and you can spend hours obsessing over why they may have changed your story the way they did.
Maybe they move a sentence a few paragraphs up because it fit better there. Perhaps they tell you to delete an entire scene because it has no value. These are the suggestions that help us grow as writers.
One issue you will always face is that someone will judge your work based on what they know and their own opinions and values. Not every one of those opinions are going to be correct and some of them will have valuable information while others will not.
But having a team of people you work with that know what they are doing will help you grow, and help advise you when you are not sure if your making the right decision.

I should try that at some point, it might help me in the long run.

I wouldn't mind trying to do a collaboration, but I'm sure how to do one. And I need to put blinders on my muse, it keeps taking me all over the place. Which makes finishing something really really hard. I'm like a little kid and my muse is the person with something shiny. And it's just leading me all over the place.

I'm sure that there is.

Now I just got to find this crack team to help me. All I need is a eye patch, a cool voice, and I need to shaved my mane off.

I am so, so familiar with this problem. This is what having an outline and a separate place to spew all your random ideas, without interfering with the story, is for.

I do have a few stories that I started that might not make it to the site.

I have at least 15 or 20.
... and then I feel bad about not finishing them.
Writing is hard.

I don't have that many, just a few. And I agree, writing is very hard.
2056408 You dunno how to do collab...hmm then again I've never done one either!
Your muse does that eh? My muse can be same way, but in my case she just goes off on 4 story tangents at once and, well, I can't do that much multi-tasking! It's either that or she gets bored with an idea and flies off somewhere else...I mean I can't begin to tell you what it takes to get that traitor back! Story has to get back and get finished...just like everything else sitting around!
