A small request. · 5:34am Apr 21st, 2014
I'm having a bit of trouble with AA. That trouble is writing the peerage scene and knighting scene. Thing is, I understandably don't have experience with either, and I'm having a bear of a time finding any resources detailing the flow of events for either ceremony. I am currently pulling stuff out of my butt, but I'd much rather a more accurate, if slightly altered for Equestria, set of ceremonies. If anyone has any resources that they could share, it would be much appreciated.
From what I know of the Medieval knighting ceremony, an aspiring knight the squire takes a ritual bath before the ceremony, I believe it's the night before then spends the night in vigil and prayer. During the ceremony the squire swears an oath of loyalty and fealty to his lord and then kneels before the lord and is tapped on the right then left shoulder by his lord's blade, this blade might be ceremonial and specifically for events such as this. Once this is done he rises and accepts the insignia and symbols of his office. This might be what you're looking for and I'll add another comment if I find some more but this is the ceremony for a knighting, I'm not certain about peerage. Also I Googled Knighting Ceremony and found these two sites, Wikipedia is questionable at times for accuracy but there's references at the bottom of the page that could help you.
Websites are;

Hope this gives you a starting point, I'll look around to see if there's some better resources.
Information part two, I basing all of this on the English system, peerage is divided into several categories but I assume you want hereditary peerage. I've found less on peerage given the inherit nature of most peerage but here's a pair of Wikipedia pages to give you a start.

Hereditary peerage is one that could be inherited and is created by the writ of summons or a letters patent that has the royal seal of the realm; life peerage is created by the same means of the writ of summons or a letter patent.
Life peerage may actually be what you are looking for, life peerages are created to honour someone and some of those occasions are to honour an important public figure. The styles for this form of peerage is generally Lord/Lady along with the style of The Honourable but also Baron/Baroness.
This site here, Wikipedia, has details on the ceremony inducting new life peers.

The website link has more details but in short the modern ceremony has a procession into the House of Lords (the titles of the procession figures I'm uncertain if they exist in your version of Equestria) to the Table of the House. The procession includes the new peer along with two other peers of the same rank, one junior and one senior. Here the Reading Clerk reads off the Letters Patent before administering the Oath of Allegiance or Solemn Affirmation before bowing with their supporter to the Cloth of Estate (a cloth canopy that hangs above and behind an important person) then they proceed out of the chambers and shaking hands with the Lord Chancellor on the way out.
I'm uncertain as to what peerage or title you are looking for in the story so these are some general guidelines I could provide for now. If you have a better idea of the title or which peerage I could dig something up a little more focused.
