    Letter of Destiny, advanced concept

Recently, a friend of mine became fascinated with my book series Maledictum Insania and read all of them through pretty quickly. He became particularly curious what my alternative storyline would have been if I had ended up choosing the ending Letter of Destiny from the first book as the base for the rest of the story. Eventually, he got me thinking about this series again which I considered done

    The end is coming

After about 7 years of writing, it is finally happening. The Maledictum Insania series is almost completed.
I am on the last few chapters of the final book. Very soon, this biggest story I have ever written will be concluded.
It is true what they say. You look towards the end of your major projects with both a laughing and a crying eye.

    Obsidian's Theme Songs

What is this? A new blog post! Oh my gosh! Jokes aside, I wasn't planning to make another blog post ever again. But perhaps there is still someone out there who enjoys reading this.

    Guess I finally managed it...

I noticed I am no longer getting comments and hardly any views on new chapters at all. I guess I finally managed to bore all my fans away due to my slow update speed. I am eternally sorry for this. My books never were all that successful to begin with and now I seem to have reached the point where I'm not even writing for anyone but my two pre-readers anymore.

MI Beta, Post 4 · 12:44am Mar 24th, 2014

Another week passes with me being unable to do next to everything. I'm starting to feel really bad.
I will try to get a new Cupcake Factory chapter done this week. And to make up for all the waiting, I will present you a big scrapped concept this time.

The unused Maledictum Insania 2 concept

Some of you may still remember that there was a vote running about which ending MI2 should be based on. Ringing Bells or Letter of Destiny.
To avoid possible spoilers, I will not recap what happened in these endings and just suggest you to read them yourself.
While I left the decision to you guys, I made concepts for both ending. Now, if you read MI2, you know that Ringing Bells won the vote and know how the story continued based on that ending. But here is what would have happened if the base for MI2 would have been Letter of Destiny:

Obsidian Shards would have been alive for the rest of the series as an earth pony, trying his best to adapt back to the life of a regular subject. Fluttershy would have been pregnant throughout MI2 with her belly growing bigger over time while both parents were very looking forward to their child. But Despair would have been watching them the whole time, just waiting for the right timing to strike to inflict maximum suffering. Ultimately, she would have stabbed Fluttershy in the womb, killing off the unborn child just days before its birth. While Despair made sure Fluttershy survived that assault, this would have left both Obsidian and Fluttershy wrecked with heavy personality changes. Fluttershy would have gained a desperate, underlying rage, causing her to lose her kindness. Obsidian would have become revenge-driven, hunting down Despair and trying to get her destroyed once and for all at any price necessary.

Why was this idea scrapped?

As already said, the vote came down to Ringing Bells. And quite frankly, I personaly thought that this was the better choice anyway. Even though there would have been some extremely emotional scenes seen of Fluttershy's and Obsidian's tragedy, this concept never was as well developed as the one for Ringing Bells. It lacked a lot of the details the used concept has and was far not as elaborate. For example, I wasn't sure where to go with Obsidian's and Fluttershy's personality change. As in if I should follow it through and permanently change them or somehow find a way to overcome their suffering. I was also toying with the idea of having the death of their unborn child be something that would slowly drive a wedge between the couple, unsure if it would be overcome in the end or cause them to ultimately break up, only inflicting even more emotional scars.

Overall, MI2 would have turned out a lot shorter and less exciting. I personally preferred the concept for Ringing Bells and am very satisfied with what I have ultimately done with MI2.

That's it for this time. If there is anything you would like to tell me or request, go right ahead. I will see what I can do and I am always looking forward to see comments.

I think this route would had been an interesting one to read. But I think the current path has been miles better, specially the ending of MI2 was completely unexpected.

Was there any more ideas if it went on to Letter of Destiny by the way? I mean, any way Twilight or other characters would had been involved with Fluttershy and Obsidian?

The main storyline would have been pretty much the same, just all character interactions would have been entirely different, since it would have been a whole different set of characters and pasts they lived through.
Obsidian and Fluttershy would have joined Twilight in her investigation all along and throughout their journey, they would have been keeping an especially close eye on Fluttershy's condition, trying to avoid any danger or stress for the unborn foal. She would have been left out of all dangerous activities and would always have been placed in a way that she completely avoids all battles.
Obsidian would have been swaying in his use. One time, he would have been through dangerous activities with the rest of the group, the other he would have remained with Fluttershy and guarded her.
But all in all, the whole group would have been together and Derpy would have been a permanent member of the group. If you dont remember why, Id like to avoid giving spoilers and just suggest to reread Letter of Destiny.

Oh and to answer your other question. Sadly, no. I never came up with other sidestories and events that would happen in this concept. Ringing Bells provided so much more to talk about: Fluttershy's apprentice years as a reaper, her depression over losing Obsidian, Twilight's organ damage, Applejack crippling and decay of her family, the introduction of Crystal Blossom as a new permanent member of the group. There was just so much more to talk about here.
