Hello again and welcome to the abandoned concepts of the Maledictum Insania series. But before we get to today's scrapped idea, I would like to apologize for my shallow activity.
What I used to spend in time writing chapters I now have to spend in writing reports for work. I literally just spent a whole day, from the time I came back from work until I had to go to bed, writing three reports only to end up finding out I accidentally overwrote a file and had to redo one report entirely. Ugh...
I really hope I will be able to get back to actually writing my stories at some point. But for now, it looks like I will only get even more stressed. I am really sorry to disappoint my fans and keep you all waiting, but things are only getting harder for me as it seems.
Anyway. Last time, I already hinted on a beta concept. So let's just get to it now.
Obsidian's Gifts
Obsidian was planned to at some point late in MI1 make the mane 6 meaningful gifts to show his appreciation for them. Twilight would gain a powerful spell, Applejack would get his entire money, Rarity would get an Angel Stone, Pinkie a magical type of sugar, Fluttershy a romantic date.
Why was this idea scrapped?
Oh boy. A lot was wrong with this idea, even though it is explained so swiftly.
Firstly, it felt out of character for Obsidian. He hardly ever showed any emotions and all the sudden he completely goes out of his shell? I do not think this would have been very beliefable.
Secondly, it would have sent the wrong message about Obsidian. Seing how he would have been displayed as having lots of money and valueable objects, it would bring up the image that he is rather wealthy and actually gets paid for his tasts as a reaper. That is not the case, though. Obsidian was poor throughout his life. Reapers also do not get payment for their loyalty. They simply are expected to serve, which they actually do. It is all part of their unshakeable loyalty towards their mistress and Obsidian in particular was so loyal, Celestia could have demanded absolutely everything from him and he would have done it. No exceptions.
And finally, the gifts are horribly unbalanced. It is very obvious that Rarity, Twilight and Applejack would get far better gifts than Pinkie and Fluttershy. It would just have been really paradox to see how the one pony Obsidian actually has romantic feelings for gets maybe the least meaningful gift. I mean, a date is nice and all, but its still just a standart thing in a relationship. A date like any other would not justify as a gift in this case.
Before I even came up with any ideas how to balance out the gifts better, I decided to scrap this idea entirely. In its place, a different event was held. Instead of making Obsidian go towards the mane six, I ended up them being the ones approaching Obsidian with a gift during his birthday. Yet, I still wanted to display him as deeply appreciating his friends, so I ultimately decided on something that was so simple, yet so meaningful and equal in value I could give it to all the characters. Obsidian hugging the six mares and due to Fluttershy's special status, she gets a kiss additionally. It can hardly get more symbolic than this, and Obsidian was all about symbolic acts, so I thought this would fit his character perfectly.

Yea, Obsidian giving gifts isn't really like him. But, the thing that caught my mind here is that he gives Pinkie magic sugar, even though he knows his mission is to eliminate her on a certain date. Been a little while since I've read MI1 so I can only remember most of the main events.
Since he's a heartless killer, he could had somehow poisoned it to have her vulnerable on the right day. Just a possible thought, but Pinkie's Pinkie Sense would had probably caught him anyway and the assassination would had more likely failed.
Also, don't worry, there is no rush. If you not feeling up to writing, don't force yourself.

Its less about me not feeling like it and more about me not being able to.
I got so much to do for work. I am at the kindergarden half the day, then i need to take a lot of work back home to think up stuff and prepare for the next day and when im finally done with everything, im so tired i just flop into my bed. It sucks. I cant even find the time to think about the next chapter of cupcake factory.
