Just your average british lad. I write things for a living. It’s the strangest living you’ll ever find, second only to my inability to take myself off of the grid.

Shadow Reviews, Episode 1: Simple Ways · 7:27pm Feb 8th, 2014

Hey, everyone reading this.

Welcome to a brand new writing series I've suddenly started to make a thing.

I'm gonna review every episode that comes out when it comes out. Seeing as most of my youtube videos focus on let's plays of Kingdom Hearts and a few other series. But enough of my rambling, let's see what I thought about today's episode: Simple Ways.

We all know Rarity has overreacted to stuff in the past, but this episode's conflict about this Trenderhoof fellow having romantic interests for Applejack instead of Rarity, made this an interesting and exciting episode. Rarity always goes over the top when she's shot down or had something bad happen to her, a few examples include Suited For Success and Rarity Takes Manehatten. All in all, this pony is hilarious when she goes on a downward spiral of sadness and misery. I mean seriously, who doesn't laugh at white horse's tears? Hilarity aside, Rarity kind of takes it too far with the whole "Turn-country-style-even-though-deep-down-you're-really-a-fashion-queen" thing and it massively alters her character and makes this so called "Ponyville Day" Festival sound a little crap. But once Rarity and Applejack decide to debate and do a little role-reversal, I could not help but enjoy every second of it. This is no doubt my favourite Rarity episode thus far with Rarity sacrificing her regality, all so that she could get the guy who has a crush on her friend instead of her. And it makes for good humour, good story and overall, amazing character development. Also, I noticed a verbal call-back in this episode, Trenderhoof says something about some kind of Spring Fling in the French part of Equestria, Prance. Thus making me believe that somepony has leaked the history of the human world to everypony around them. It was a good reference, but not as good as some of the other things I saw today. Overall the conflict was resolved with the simple "It-doesn't-matter-if-someone-shoots-you-down-for-romance-it's-their-loss" thing, but the way this could have been better is if Trenderhoof and Applejack actually had time to talk and settle the issue at first hand, but no, there wasn't anytime and Trenderhoof just ended up being a stalker, which struck a nerve with Rarity. But just before the conflict ended, the way Rarity treats one of her soiled dresses like a dying patient just made me laugh, making white horse the best for humourous reason. Fluttershy is still best pony for general stuff, that's never gonna change. But white horse wins the "Best-humourous-mare-of-the-Mane-6" Award in my book. Sorry, Pinkie, you just went a little overboard last week.

All in all, this episode was awesome, Rarity was funny, we met a new character, the jokes were good, the livestream screwed up so I had to watch it on youtube, etc. etc. and so on.

My final score lies at a decent 8/10 for this episode.

Alright guys, leave me your comments and your views on this episode in the comments section below and hopefully you'll have a nice day.

NEXT WEEK'S REVIEW: Filli Vanilli
(Expect a lot of Fluttershy hype for that one)

This was a great episode, and for some reason I seem to be so in love with it that I don't mind it, and consider it my favorite episode. I just don't know what it is that I see (or don't see) that everyone else doesn't see (or does see).
