What's that about writing? · 5:16am Jan 28th, 2014
"What do you want to do when you grow up?"
Wow, how many times did I hear that all of my life. It really didn't matter what my answer was in the end though. Society has a way of trying to drive people to do things that pay well. It really doesn't matter if it makes them happy. I've often said that money doesn't equal happiness. You can have all of the money in the world and still be a miserable son of a bitch. There's real examples, and of course you got the classic Charles Dickens example of Scrooge, but no matter if you look in real life or in fiction it seems that money often makes you a lot less happy than it seems like it would.
So, What do I want to be? I want to be what I'm doing, or at least doing part time. I want to be a professional author. I want to write books, create characters, create worlds, and maybe play a little bit like god in them. That's half of the fun. But, I can't deny that I owe a lot of it to fan fiction. If it wasn't for getting my teeth wet with writing fan fiction for Dragonball Z, Justice League, Marvel Zombies, Day of the Dead, Grand Theft Auto, and MLP: FIM I don't think that I would have learned how much I enjoy writing.
I enjoy it in a way that makes me all warm and tingly. Sort of like wrapping up in a bear skin. (Yes, it's a Venture Bros reference). So, when I get a chance, and the muses sing, I love to write fan fiction. Recently it's been the cross over between GTA and MLP. I know that it's not everyone's cup of tea. I understand that, but I like the direction of the story. To be honest I feel that Niko Bellic could relate to what Rainbow Dash went through in Cupcakes. Which, that's why I wrote the alternate ending. An ending where Rainbow was saved before she was killed. Her Cutie Mark was even left on, although she has a bad scar above it.
Seeing her living in Liberty City, as a human, also is interesting to me. She's experiencing an entirely new world. I know that I'm doing a more touchy story like 'My little Dashie', and believe me I love that story, but I don't think, no I know, that's not the story that this Rainbow needs. She's suffered Trauma, and she's having to learn how to deal with life again. Niko's brand of life isn't the best one out there. In truth most everyone would rather not have to do what he does for a living, but then his life is something that I think she could deal with. There's adventure, danger, and she's learning how to protect herself even better.
So, what about the idea of bringing in the Rainbow Dash from the Rainbow Factory? Yeah, that's something I thought would be interesting as well. Having the Rainbow Dash from Cupcakes, who lives, seeing what she could have been like in another universe. She finds a darker, more twisted, and frankly much more like the Pinkie Pie she discovered kind of pony than she really could even believe.
I know there might be some question about how I'm going to make these two stories match up. After all, we're talking about leading one story quite frankly into another story. It's something that I feel shouldn't be too hard. Multiverse Rumble is basically happening after the events of The Ballad of Rainbow Dash. and to be honest this entire thing started because I just wanted a different ending to Cupcakes.
Anyway, I just wanted to talk for a few minutes. have a good one.
