    Soon!

I think I've used that blog title three or four times now.

Anyway! New chapter of Spectacular Seven is almost done! I was hoping it would be done this week so I could post it on Saturday, but I need to rewrite a scene. And that's before I edit it! And before Drakey edits it! The good news is...

    Ten Years, Still Here

I think back to my nascent days here, reading stories and typing out my own, hoping for the day where I could call myself a veteran of the fandom. My stories would be remembered and I would stand alongside authors like Pen stroke and Aragon.

And I look where I am now and go, ‘well, you got one big hit. Good enough.’

Albinocorn Reviews: Season 4, Episode 9: Pinkie Apple Pie · 8:15am Jan 15th, 2014

I just spent all day moving into my new dorm and walking around campus, so I'm kinda out of witty or clever ways to start this review. Hopefully something will come to me as we go in.

Anyways, welcome to another round of my review follow-up, commentary, thingies!

Lovely title.

Well, at least you're still full of pep.

Point for Pinkie for adorable face.

I've been looking forward to this episode ever since Comic-Con, if just to hear the song they revealed again in full animation. I've resigned myself to stop looking at spoilers, even synopsis and episode titles so I'm blind going into the episode. The only thing I knew was that there was going to be a kickass song included.

So, this episode also introduces us to another new writer, Natasha Levinger, and for her debut, she tries to write the most difficult pony in the series to get a good grasp on: Pinkie Pie.

I want Jenga skills like that!

I don't understand, how did she...?

Shhh, we just don't question things like that at this point. So far, Miss Levinger is off to a decent start. Throughout the season, Pinkie has been pretty off base after Castle-Mania, as different writers try different aspects with her. Yes, Pinkie is crazy, but there's usually a method to her madness. It's just hard to spot at first.

Anyway, it seems Twilight is researching genealogy (why she has records of the family trees in Ponyville in the first place is a question for another day) and Pinkie misses a perfect opportunity to make a genie joke. However, she does find something of interest...

Ohana!

Exe. Applejack has stopped working. Please reboot and try again.

I can't really blame Applejack. I'd probably make the same face too if I found out I was related to Pinkie of all ponies.

I think just about everyone would make that face.

She's already made herself at home.

So after Applejack had successfully rebooted, Pinkie explains how they're fourth cousins twice removed by a filth cousin. Which really would make them... absolutely nothing! But, Pinkie logic (and apparently Apple logic) dictates that that means they're family! But, there's only one way to find out for sure!

Road trip!

Wait, slow down! You missed a whole bunch of good expressions back there!

See? First, we have Big Mac showing off.

I'm... actually not sure what they're doing here.

New Applejack 'wat' face.

We really need to update the pony faces on this site.

New Pinkie happy face. Just look at her!

Okay, I'm done.

Right, now back to the adventure. The family decides to head to Goldie Delicious, the official Apple family record keeper, to find out if Pinkie is really related to them. And like my family on vacations, they are way overpacked.

Yep, this won't backfire in anyway.

"We're Apples to the core!"

Hot diggity! I've been waiting for this more than just about anything else this season, save for the explosive premier. This song, Oooooh, this song! It's right up there with Smile, Smile, Smile and This Day Aria. It's so upbeat and catchy and just, ugh, it's perfect! It's just another great feel good song and I can't stop listing to it! I wish I could get my family to sing it if we ever take a road trip again.

My feels!

You can even hear Big Mac singing! asadasbhjafhbhdjakhbdjkah!

Dat shading!

They really pushed the limits with this piece of work. It's come so far from that lovable little animation clip from way back last year. DHX, I salute you.

Did I mention I love this song?

Pinkie's singing VA gives Rarity a run for her money in this song as well. The more I listen to it, the more perfect it becomes.

Wait, who's driving the wagon?

This is why you shouldn't sing and drive.

Hmm, seems Applejack was right. Ya guys may have packed just a little too much stuff there. But where there's a will, there's a way! The trip will continue!

Evidently, the lesson didn't sink in.

Oh, somethings gonna sink alright.

Seems Pinkie's been busy.

The new writer has been doing a pretty good job so far of capturing Pinkie, so I give her some props for that. let's see if the feeling can carry itself through the rest of the episode.

Meanwhile, Applejack's plan to show Pinkie what a perfect family they are is slowly starting to fall apart. You know, when you think about it, Applejack and Rarity are kinda alike. Both of them want things to go just perfect. Oh just imagine if that had been Rarity in Pinkie's place. So many tears would have fallen that day.

Or, more... questionable stories would have risen.

... Or that.

"It's the circle of life..."

Dear Lord, I loved that part so much! It's an old gag but it's hilarious! Probably because it was so unexpected and it really just added insult to injury on Applebloom's blunder. She should have a cutie mark in misfortune.

And things go from bad to worse as Granny Smith and Applejack start to fight over the wheel trying to decide who knows where to go. leading to the scariest cave in Equestria! Photo unavailable.

There might be something to that Giggle at the Ghosties song...

Of course Pinkie's unphased... she's Pinkie. Just look at her.

We're really going overboard with the pictures, aren't we?

And the fight for the wheel continues and roves that the super sap may not be all that super.

Wheel of Misfortune!

I had to catch my breath at this point. I was seriously just like, "What? Really? Did that really happen?" Geez, this episode...

This episode.

I... don't even...

Well, after a harrowing adventure, the family plus Pinkie finally arrive at Goldie Delicious' cabin. And... she's not there. I blame Applebloom and her misfortune cutie mark that isn't there yet. So while Pinkie wanders off, the family does a little apologizing to one another and learn a valuable lesson: no family is perfect, but if you're still a family at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Ugh, let the poor boy speak!

Oh yeah, and apparently there was slendermane or whatever. Don't really care about that.

Oh dear, crazy cat lady inbound.

So many cats... and the inside of her house looks like a hoarders paradise. I think Rarity would have an aneurism

Yeah, I hope that dust ball wasn't the remains of an actual cat that had sat there too long. But, at last, we'll get to know if Pinkie is an Apple or not. And the results are in!

Inconclusive.

Now what are the chances of both pieces of parchment being smudged at the perfect place. Apparently quite high. So now we'll never know, but perhaps it's better this way. Life is fun with a little bit of mystery. And Applejack is right, you don't need a piece of paper to tell you if you're family or not. That's something you feel in your heart.

My, that was unusually sappy of you.

This is what happens when I write late at night.

Of all the things to fight over.

So the episode ends with a little family argument on who would get to write in the diary. Seems silly if you ask me, but I suppose most family arguments are in hindsight. And while I'm not too fond of the little end gag Pinkie does, it is within her range to do something like that.

Wow, what an episode. Some pretty solid writing for Pinkie Pie, laugh out loud gags and a spectacular song. Levinger didn't do too bad with her first outing. Not to bad at all.

I wasn't going to give this a 10/10, but going back and looking over it, I found I enjoyed the episode much more than I originally thought I had. So, I give Pinkie Apple Pie a 10/10.

It got extra points for the family message.

Well, that's it for now, everyone. See ya!

Agreed. Great episode!:pinkiehappy:

:ajsmug::pinkiesmile:

I was hoping to learn more about Pinkie's, not Applejack's family, but this episode is totally fine anyway. Pinkie Apple Pie has some more serious moments for Pinkie in this season, but it's not a whole lot of them. I'd prefer to see her growing up a little, sort of like in Baby Cakes. But, as a standalone, this episode is good.

Completely agreed, 10/10 it is!

1720276 I believe there is an episode involving Pinkie's sisters coming up, so I'm looking forward to that one.

"We're family, we're family, you an' me are family! Pinkie Pie: Best family twirl everrrrrrr!"

Fridge Realization: Does the fact Pinkie repeatedly callifies the Apple family as the best family ever, and express how happy is of being part of them, mean she has actual problems with her own family?:twilightoops:

1724509 Oh yeah, i forgot to address that. Pinkie does constantly go on about how great the Apples are... wonder how her family will feel about that...
