That Feeling... · 2:15am May 7th, 2012

That feeling you get when you're in the middle of reading an incredible bit of fiction and don't even care that it was about brightly colored talking ponies?

That feeling you get when you finish and realize that the story is over and an hour's vanished like someone who left the room when you weren't looking?

Or that feeling you get when you realize that you never wrote something like that, never would have written something like that in all your fanciful musings at midnight in your bed, and you sit back and wonder at how another person can really have those kinds of ideas, and then wonder what they must think about to have them?

That feeling when you're astonished at what wonderful, dark, funny, tragic things other human beings can create?

That feeling when you care about a story and the characters in it and only hope that you can be like them in similar situations?

When you think about what you could do if presented with a similar idea or a setting, and kinda feel like maybe you've been wasting your time and need to really get your creativity in gear?

That's what I feel when my mouse hovers over that silly little gold star next to a story.

That's what I feel when I get up and go walk around the house after reading something great.

Or even what I feel when maybe, for whatever reason, I didn't leave any direct feedback and the best I can offer is my best story in return.

Authors everywhere who write for those moments, brony and non-brony alike, I salute you. Whatever your view count or however many faves you have, strive to inspire that feeling. I like to think that's what we're here for.

Because if and when you do, no one can ever say you weren't a writer.
