Guys? ...Please Help... · 12:41pm Dec 4th, 2013

So, I still kind of regret writing Teatime for Two. Reactions were kind of mixed initially, and for good reason. Some people balked at the whole, "Alternate Universe full of Schrödinger's ponies" thing, while others liked an odd little conversation between the two.
And then I got this comment.

¡Creating universe with all of those ponies, gryphons, dragons, diamonddogs, et cetera just to die a slow painful deaths is just terrible! The only redeeming parts of the story are the references to Inception, Doctor Whooves, and The Hitchhikers’ Guide To The Galaxy. You and Dave “Progenocide Antiscience” Polsky have much in common.

I wasn't quite sure how to respond to this, so I sent a message that stated that... well, take a look.

I... beg your pardon? I'm not sure I get the joke, if this is one, and if it is it's not a particularly funny one. For one, yes, I agree that the whole alternate universe thing isn't entirely ethical, but that doesn't mean I support that sort of thing. Second, I'm not sure who this Dave Polsky chap is. A google search tells me he wrote a couple MLP episodes, but I'm not sure where you're coming from by insulting both of us. I'm sorry, but if this is a joke, it's gone the way of the clouds: right over my head.

And then... Stars and Moon, I don't even... I'm not going to post his response, simply because it was too long to repost here and quoting quotes may break Fimfiction, but here's a link to the relevant comment.
Guys, I just... don't know how to respond to this. This is genuinely the first time this has happened to me, and... I wasn't prepared in the slightest. The lines he's drawing... They hurt. Bad. I didn't mean to imply any of what he's implying I... Implied, and I'm not sure where to go from here. I mean, I could just block him, but... That doesn't feel right. Could someone maybe help a little bit here? Advice, going straight to him, anything. I mean, be gentle, but...
Sorry. I just... Wow. I've pretty thick skin, but... I'm gonna go hug somebody for a bit.

Not that sure what to do. Maybe you could send him a message saying that you didn't mean to imply those things and that you didn't mean to offend him in any way. Blocking him would be just kinda pointless I guess.
If you are still unsure maybe just try to... ignore him? I know that sounds kinda dumb to ignore a comment like that, but I'm honestly not sure what else to do.
Wow, some help I was, sorry. :facehoof:

Well, better than nothing.
Thanks anyway, good to know somebody cares.

It's a load of bullshit, man. He's pulling a comparison to abusive parents out of his ass and putting words in your mouth that have nothing to do with the work. The reference to Polsky is insulting to both of you and is based entirely in alarmists that take a children's cartoon show too seriously. He's using "genocide" and "antiscience" as buzzwords, nothing more.

I know it's difficult to receive that kind of baseless criticism, but ignoring him really is the best possible solution. This is the same calibre of person that'll look at an episode of Looney Tunes and say it promotes violence among children and has an anti-government moral or something.

For the record, I had no problems with your story and enjoyed it a good deal.

Remember the words of Doctor Seuss: Be who you are, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

I liked it, and found it intriguingly thought provoking. The premise was interesting and likeable, and your writing is always excellent. Thank you for writing. Thanks, thecookiewookie

I still like that fic. After seeing this blog I went and replied to him and I hope that doesn't make it harder on you as a result. Even though I replied to him I agree with the folks saying ignore him since he seems set in his views.

Literary analysis is about building a case for your opinion. It is ultimately just that, a person's opinion. They obviously had a bone to pick and went out of their way to be abrasive to your polite response, so I don't see it as criticism but a weird personal attack.

I don't agree with them, and I enjoyed Teatime for Two. The best you can do is say, "I did not intend what you read into it," and move on. If you are nothing but polite and trying for an honest dialogue and they continue to act this way, then you should certainly block them.

If it is really bothering you that much then maybe take a break from INTERNET and get a cup of tea (although I prefer coffee).

Thanks guys, all of you. I'm feeling a bit better now, but... Man, I hope something like this doesn't happen again. It feels good to know all of you have my back on this. :pinkiesad2:

Always remember: if someone is a jerk to you on the internet, just get enough friends together and we can use them in a summoning ritual as the bait. it could be fun.

1572156 No problem. It always sucks when people misread what you mean, especially when all you have is the text on the screen. Hope your mood keeps going up. :)

Thanks, me too. I've been having an... inconvenient week. All the support really cheered me up.

1572760 I feel you. I've got finals (eek!) coming up.
