Well, this is an interesting development... and relevant to my interests. This episode totally deserves this as its intro, though. It's too good to pass up!
Anyway, after about a month of silence, I finally got around to posting the new Among Gods chapter (just in time for the Season 4 Premiere too)! I've been having a lot of interesting discussions with you all and I'm extremely happy my story has you all engaged like this. I don't necessarily recall ever having a story that kept my readers guessing as to where the plot is heading like this before! I wish I could tell you all about what I have planned, but that would ruin the experience and I don't want to do that!
In any case, for this blog entry, I'm going to elaborate on a comment I made yesterday regarding continuity. One of my readers asked me what universe or canon I was going to follow for the DC Universe. I responded saying that Among Gods doesn't necessarily follow any established canon or continuity made by DC (or Hasbro, for that matter). Instead, I opted to create my own iteration of the DCU. One that had a varying range of influences from not just the comics, but also from the various games, television shows, and movies. This would hopefully make the world of Among Gods seem familiar to any type of DC fan. We're talking over 75 years worth of history here... and I'm not just talking about the comics!
With this mind, you could say that Among Gods is more of an Elseworlds story. It doesn't necessarily follow any established canon set by DC or Hasbro, but it has elements that make it easy to assume that this is the DC Universe. Superman isn't raised by Communist beliefs in this one. He's still the Big Blue Boy Scout and Twilight is still an adorkable pony princess with wings. That's all that matters.
For my more curious readers, you are all probably wondering what templates I've used in forming my take on the DCU. Some of my biggest influences so far have been cartoons such as Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice. But the most important of these influences, however, has been the DC Universe Online MMO.
The moment I saw that trailer, I knew exactly how I wanted Among Gods to turn out. In a way, the video served as a proof-of-concept for me. This idea had been festering in my head even before my attention came to the video, but the trailer actually gave me the confidence needed to actually attempt to execute it. The game itself is nice, by the way. It's free to play too, if you're curious. I highly recommend playing it.
