"I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: 'I served in the United States Navy."

I talk to one everyday, a man who was on the last helicopter out of Saigon. And of course my school sits right next to Ft. Hood thus most of my classmates are either active duty or retired

My friend lives near Fort Mead, and since my father was a vet, I'm allowed onto the base. Every time I go inside, I still have that child like amazement with me, and it never wears off, and I hope it never does. I always greet the MP's with a smile, and wish them a good day, just like everyone else I meet on base. It's a pleasure to be in the presence of them, and I wish you a very happy Veteran's Day and Remembrance day.

...Huh? I know there's a TF2 reference in there somewhere

I wish there was an Thank a vet forum

"I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902–1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents."

- Mayor General Smedly Butler, US Marine Corps.

So sorry if I don't share on your sentiment: one thing is to be proud of what you are (or in my case, enjoy some cool stories written by you), but it cannot be denied that the greatness of the US is little more that the oppression and enslavement of the Orb, and that your once-per-generation wars are little more than justifications so the US military can continue to exist, and the war machine can continue to profiteer.

The only thing that truly terrifies the American military machine... is peace.
