Nothing’s Too Broken To Be Beautiful · 9:57pm Sep 23rd, 2013
Want to know what I mean by this? Well then, step right up and read this story right now!
Derpy is a dedicated mail mare, albeit a rather untalented one. Her strabismus prevents her from seeing distances properly, which, combined with high-speed flight inherent to her chosen occupation means that she crashes. Repeatedly. Her boss is furious at the ensuing damage to the packages entrusted to Derpy, and thus states that if she breaks this one, she's fired. When she suffers a mid-air collision and opens the package to find it is filled with broken pieces, she presumes that the job she loves is now at an end. But the artist whose package she was carrying lets her know that there's a beauty in Derpy that she doesn't need perfect vision to see.
And hey, why not give it a quick review while I'm at it?

Cracked Beauty is a really sweet fanfic that really tugs on the feels right from the beginning. Derpy's struggling to deliver her latest package, and she's worried that if she messes this one up, she'll get fired. And along the way, a small accident later causes her to worry even more, not about her injuries, but about the package itself. Then she goes to deliver it, only to be greeted nicely by an artist. She teaches Derpy that even broken things aren't always bad. It's how you look at them that matters.

The Good. This story lacks any bad spelling or grammar errors, so it gets good points for that. The story itself, it is amazing, and a really touching concept when you think about a mare such as Derpy who suffers from strabismus, which means wall-eyed. The story really handles this well, and gets a huge plus from me. The amount of feeling and tone of it is also noteworthy, lending to a caring tone seen throughout the story, albeit the beginning is rather harsh, but fair somewhat. Everything is also so detailed, heavily showing a lot more than telling, which is a high point for any story.
The Bad. Well... this story hardly gets any bad points. Really, the only thing I can come up with is that the only canon character present in the story is Derpy. Not much else going for it here, although there is a brief appearance from another canon character. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing, now is it?
This story gets a 9.5/10 for its sweet moments and premise, and just an overall touching tone near the middle-end.
I will get another blog post up tomorrow concerning important matters, but for now, this is all.
