I may be replacing the current title image with this one in the near future!

    Drabble

Pegasi had a belief. It gave way to tradition, then superstition, and finally to aphorism, but it grain of truth in it persists. That you can tell all you need about someone by the sound of their wings.

Why is there no Changeling story called...

    "All Love Is Unrequited?"

Anyway, it's been a while since I made a blog post for...various life reasons. This is mostly to check in and prove that I am not actually dead. Also that I have written some 25k words of original sci-fi in a month. I am hoping I can keep this up! And give you all a story with jovial insect aliens, sassy AIs, and a mystery.

Well, this feels self-aggrandizing... · 10:39pm Apr 10th, 2012

But since two people commented on it recently, I thought I'd say something about the original fic I'm plugging away on.

It's just hit 50,000 words, so it's actually real and not just a figment of my imagination!

However, it's not very similar to OTEOTM/Apotheosis. It's closer to intrigue with a side helping of action, rather than adventure-oriented (although, one of my pre-readers has said the best description of it is xenofiction).
It's written in first-person; the protagonist is nonhuman, though the setting is a human one.
The location is an alchemypunk city perched on the edge of a bottomless abyss; it's narrower in scope of world since it all takes place in a single setting, rather than as a journey like my ponyfics here.
The thematic focus is a character arc for the protagonist - not romance, I'm afraid.

I just don't want anyone to think I'm going to give you a larger, non-pony version of OTEOTM or Apotheosis and be disappointed when I don't :(

Oh, it's wonderful! I was afraid you had forgotten about it but now, seeing it progress, I feel insecure no longer.
Where are you going to publish it, by the way?

Oh my, this sounds intriguing. Carry on, please.

I'd like to read this original fic of yours.

I'm going to put it on Amazon as an e-book for a buck or two. You don't need a publisher for that, and publishers are horrible creatures (except for Baen and a few others), and I don't want to deal with the legal hassle of that sort of thing. I'll take my 70% cut of sales with the freedom to do anything I want with it. Still going to be quite a while; even when I finish it, it's going to need polishing passes and so forth...and then the format conversion and polishing that. And making a website for it and suchlike.

Well, please post on here when you do finish it! I will probably forget in time (Sorry!) but I am interested.

Also, Baen does seem like a really good publisher from a reader's perspective.

Yeah, I would definitely buy it. Sounds good. Let us know when it's done. :pinkiehappy:

Aww. I was hoping for a fic focusing on Celestia's vacation. >=/

Whatevs, this one sounds pretty cool. ^o^ Now all I need is an eBook. And money. And a life. :facehoof:

You have already sold me at least one copy.

Do take the time to really polish it. Seriously consider a professional editor (maybe a grand, according to my Google-fu) or learning the skills of the trade yourself (may be more expensive, depends on how good your day job is). At the very least, I recommend Line by Line by Claire Cook.

No advance? Crowdsource it! No matter what you do, you must be more self-confident. I don't feel like you're being self-aggrandizing. This blog page is a great way to reach your fans (yes, you have at least one fan) and start spreading word-of-mouth.

You have gained....

ONE PURCHASE!

Also a mustache. Looking forward to this greatly...

:moustache:

Well best of luck to you! That sounds really kind of awesome, haha. I know I will definitely be buying it when you release it. You are, after all, a huge inspiration!

Missed the word 'original' and was like :rainbowhuh: for a second there. Anyway, I definitely won't buy it, not with this e-reader I have right here, and I'm most certainly not wishing it were already for sale. Nope, not at all. :trollestia:
