Fun fact: back in the days of open differentials, most General Motors cars could make a quick turn on wet pavement or dirt by just stomping down on the gas pedal, with no steering input at all. If I remember correctly, it would kick the rear end out to the right (thus effectively making a left turn) until you took your foot off the gas.

That's a lot less likely to work in an older pickup, since they were usually geared for towing. My 78 Chevy tops out at about 3000 RPM; with a 3-speed manual trans, it can't hit sixty unless the winds are favorable. I took it down to North Carolina once; through the mountains I topped out in second gear, at about 35 MPH. Gravel trucks were passing me. But I could do 80 on the downhills . . . .
