And so it begins... · 6:36am Aug 17th, 2013
Almost a year ago, I had an idea. A simple idea. To use the prompts from EQD's Newbie Artist Training Grounds to write a story, with each prompt driving a chapter and each chapter at least one thousand words long.
I've always liked the event, but drawing isn't really my thing. I draw stick figures badly. Now, sure, the event is designed in part for people like me, and that's part of what makes it cool. I've chosen my pony art form though, and it is writing. If I were to choose another, it'd be music, not pictures. I'm a numbers guy, not an imagery one. Hence why I tend to struggle a bit with show vs tell issues.
And now NATG III is upon us, so it is time to put the idea into action. A bit sooner than I was expecting, but oh well.
I'm hoping the event will be good practice for me, to aid me in writing faster, as well as producing better first drafts. Always been a bit jealous of authors who can quickly and reliably churn out good prose.
And so new story: Diamond Tiara and the Hand of Phoe.
Where will it go? Not exactly sure. I've got a very vague idea of how it might end, but beyond that and the start, I've really got no clue. It'll all depend on the prompts. I expect the story will be a bit rougher than my usual fare. Trying to work on speed a bit after all, and I do still want time to devote to P&P&S. It will most likely also wind up a bit more disjointed, because I can't really plan this one out. (OMG! Cannot plan! Ack! *panic*) A prompt will happen, and I'll have about a day to come up with and write something that fits the story as best possible. Assuming I can keep up with the pace, anyway.
But it should be fun.
