The future of Man of War and Happy Birthday Miles!

Today is Miles's birthday! Or, tomorrow is, if you're reading at the time of release. Crazy to think one of my favorite jokes with Miles was literally decided by one of the readers. As a Brony Point reward I let someone pick his birthday, and they chose Feb. 29. So now the joke goes whenever he's acting immature he replies that he is only six.

    Semper Fidelis

All of my stories will be on hiatus for the foreseeable future as I begin my military career.

I wanted to get so much more done than I actually did. But time was a resource that I didn't have enough of. And I am sorry for that.

Do not fret though! When I am able to, I fully intend to come back and start writing again! Just know that it'll be some time before that occurs.

I am no longer taking Spartan Oc's. If your character is still listed but you have not been notified that they've made it, it is because they are still undergoing slating. When the final list has been chosen, you will be notified if you made it. Thanks for submitting.

Name: Raz Al-Gruul, Male

Race: Orc

Size: ten feet, three inches

Basic description: Average green, scaly skin with several cuts and old wounds. Bright yellow eyes. Built like a freight train.

Life was easy for me growing up in Cliffton. Well, as easy as any orcs life that is. My father died early on, and my mother was hunted down by a group chimps. Needless to say, I don’t like chimp anymore. From there I did what any orc would do at the time and joined the bezerkers, a group of misfits that Hunt deep in enemy territory. Though, for Orcs, enemy territory is anywhere that isn’t home. I found out quickly that the world didn’t agree with our existence. Some have even tried to eradicate us, but only the strong survive.

This went on until my group was almost obliterated by a death squad from the Bear Soviet Union, only leaving me and my close friend, Azzeal, alive. At the end of this she would become my mate for life. Together we fought our way out of a bear prison, sacked a small village, and found a really good trout fishing spot. Though the orcs don’t necessarily believe in love, I guess you could say we are in… love. I’d rather say we’re two good orcs who don’t need any other distractions. It wasn’t long before we were bound (married) and had our first offspring. Zeakel Al-Gruul.

From then on I decided to change my ways. I want to bring my son into a world where others won’t judge him on his appearance. But, I know this is nearly an impossible task. The world views my kind as monsters, demonizing us to the point where we’re assaulted on sight. Why? Because we’re carnivores? Because we’re larger than the average person? No. I say they are the monsters and we’re the saviors. I’ll show them the errors of their ways, even if I have to force them to see it. I am not a monster.

As fate would have it, my chance to change the world would present itself to me. It all started on a Hunt I was on with my offspring. It was far to the east of Cliffton, putting us in bear country. We had been tracking down a large manticore when a group of bears attacked. I ran and hide Zeakel before facing the six bears. We clashed. Fists and teeth tore and pounded away at flesh as their blades and shields beat and slashed at me.

I fought, but the odds were slim. I was able to defeat five of them before the last one finally taking a hit to my stomach. As I was on the ground, holding my innards within myself, the last bear left me. Instead, he went and grabbed my offspring from his hiding spot and drag him out before me. After beating him, he held his sword to his throat and watched me as I squirmed to free him. His cries for my help still ring in my head to this day. I was too weak for him. But, luckily, there was another who was strong enough.

He calls himself Miles, and he is a beast the likes of which I’ve never seen before. He had apparently seen what had happened and watched, intrigued. But once he saw my offspring being threatened, he decided to intervene. He challenged the bear to a fist fight. Even I laughed at that. He may have been a well-built… whatever he said he is, but the bear toward over him. Not to mention he had to be twice his weight. But, he was undeterred, calling his pride into question.
The way he moved, the way he fought. It wasn’t a battle of brawn but of wits. The bear would try to overpower him and ripe him to shreds, but he was too smart for him. Speed and precision were his goal. The nose, eyes and ears were his target. He would alternate hitting them, being careful not to let the bear bite him. The fight was long and there were several close calls for both of them, but in the end…

Miles won. It was shocking to everyone, the bear especially. Once he was finished, he moved over to me and cured my wounds. He asked me my story. I was baffled. This being had not only fought for me, he treated me as an equal. I told him of his oddity, and he told me that wasn’t even the beginning of it. After some further discussion he asked if he could come to my home town. I told him he would be the first outsider to ever do so in orclore. HE said he didn’t know what that was but that I could tell him over dinner… it was an awkward dinner for the vegetarian.

After days of talking and discussing I agreed to move my kin to the Terradisian town of Moosden and to try my hands at Spartan Training. Convincing Azzeal proved more difficult than actually getting there. Though she did not refuse me, she did make it a point to find flaws in my plan. Zeakel found the plan amusing and wants to see the world now. If I pass this training, I get the chance to change the world. Should I fail, then at least my kin will live somewhere where they won’t be judged.

Miles told me to think of a cause, something that will help me survive this ordeal. My cause is an easy one really. It’s something that I’ve been dreaming of for all of my people, my kin especially. But, thinking for my own kind is limited. I know this now. If I truly want to have a better world for my kin, then I need to fight for the world then. This isn’t just for my own personal gain. This is for the betterment of the world. Should I pass, there is one thing I wish for everyone to have.

Equality.

again I ask you never said anything about changeling I think a changelings who learned to survive of the love that just floats around in pony populated parts of equestria and is a fighter would be veery interesting.

1221879 I've been debating it for this post. If you really want to give it a try, go ahead. Just know that I'll be judging it a bit harder than the others. If the story is interesting enough, then I'll allow it. Can't wait to see what you make of this.

so I guess that's a no?

1221951 As it said in the blog post, I sent you an email explaining why it was deleted.

damn it i got 2 oc's but i don't have a backstory for them oh well time to get to work brain

Damn. No alicorns. I had a reeeaaaaallllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyy good one... But it's not like some random OC. It has a back story that ties in really good. DAMNATION, PEACE HAS BEEN USURPED IN THE KINGDOM!!! ALL IS LOST!!!

1221960 Okay it's over a thousand I made another "test chapter" In a story to check so sorry here we go.

Name: Shifted Path
Race: Changeling
Size: normal for a changeling so around 4 feet

I grew up like any normal changeling in the hive led around by Queen Chrysalis. As normal food was low. We had nowhere good to live and I had not family, surprisingly that's normal there are no real families in the hive we are left to fend by ourselves and fight for our Queen. I live for most of my young life hungry and struggling never having much real purpose, because according to the hive there is only one purpose live and protect the Queen.
Changelings never think of anything other than the usual but I felt different I thought "What if there was something else? What if there was a better way to live? And is there a better purpose to life?" I thought maybe if we did things differently we wouldn't have to starve nor suffer. Nopony listened though nopony cared they either thought it was crazy or wrong but for once I didn't care. If they wanted to live their lives in misery so be it I won't live this way!. Luckily There is no real count on how many changelings there are or what happens within the hive unless it could affect the Queen. So I simply left, there were no heartfelt goodbyes, no sadness, no regrets, just me leaving and never looking back.

At the age of 15 I left the hive and disguised as a blacksmith named Tender Flame in Manehatten. As I stayed there longer and longer I noticed something I was never hungry. Sure I never overflowed with power but I never starved. I learned that love is never focused it can spread out and I can feed of this stray love, but still it was still not good enough. I accomplished finding a better life but I never felt like I had a true purpose. I wanted to help, and not just help ponies and changelings, no I wanted to help whoever needed it. I made friends but I had yet to fall in love. Usually Changelings don’t fall in love they just steal it but now that I have no reason too I wonder what love truly feels like. I spent time with the friends I made there. I learned why Equestria is known as a paradise. I showed my friends who I am but only three understood and supported me, others I regrettably had to erase any memory of me they had to not be discovered. Can nopony truly trust somepony of another species?

Years went by and I never discovered anything of a purpose. Only few know who I truly am and trust me. I can't join the guards because that would mean going near the princesses and being a normal changeling they'd be able to sense who I am and banish me. I could not allow that I respect the princess now but they do not respect me. I decided to wait I don’t know why call it instinct but I felt maybe something will come to light. Even then I never stopped searching.

When I was 25 I heard of a being who was brought to light. One they say is a human called Miles the only of his species. He was said to be tall and threatening, this peaked my interest. I thought about it, this human I could learn how he adjust to life and maybe learn how to earn a purpose, I mean he does seem to be just like me another species somewhere where there are none of himself, Where people fear him. I told any friends I made that I would be leave, and I didn't know when I'd be back. I never told them my reason for leaving just that I needed too and I may never be back. To my surprise unlike leaving the hive there were heartfelt goodbyes, there was sadness, but still no regret, I knew that if I felt regret that might be were I truly belong but there wasn’t so there was still something ahead of me to find. I had a path in front of me, A path shifted from it's original course.

I left for ponyville the next day and set up shop there, and whenever I could I would keep watch of this human, He seemed different and out of place like me, but what shocked me most was he made friends as himself. He never hid that he was human using some sort of magic, no he was himself and he made friends. Was this possible? Did this human do what I dreamed of? In a few short days? I had to learn from him so from that day on I followed him whenever I could through his laughs, and sadness, though I was not creepy enough to watch him mate. I followed through his adventures into the underground, though I could never journey through the walls of the cities. I tried to learn how he interacted, and how they accepted him as if he were one of their own? Is this true I thought it was impossible for another species to accept another but maybe things changed... just like a changeling. I learned how this being who is so different, an entire different species, could have friends, love, and a purpose. He even gave others a purpose to and then I saw his spartan training, or so he calls. I could never get close because many times Princess Luna was near by, but I knew that they endured hardships, but they became better ponies because of it. They gained a purpose and I wanted that too. NO I needed that for what am I without a purpose? I decided that through the odds for once I will risk my peaceful life, I will ask this human in no disguise if he can give me a purpose too. I will risk my life and my secrecy on one question. "Can I join the spartans?"

(P.S I know you said add recommendations but who could recommend a changeling? That part I could night find anypony so please excuse that it is for the point of his story.)

1221968
Is there a way you can make it a normal unicorn/pegasus pony and have the backstory still work?

1222011:pinkiesick:
Oh well, maybe ask him for a special circumstance and post the backstory and if it's convincing enough then he might accept it or change it around a bit so it works with the MoW universe.

1222018 does MoW stand for Motion of Walruses? Or Man of War? I dunno, my brain power is weak, my creativity is endless.

So are the voices...

So just to clarify, I can't make an OC that specializes in siege warfare, specifically with a trebuchet? What if I add the biological warfare twist where he enjoys hurling the bodies of dead enemies into water supplies?

You know, at first I was being a smart ass, but I'm starting to like my possible OC.

I'll give this one another anagram-ed name, but it won't be, "I'm gonna die" this time. I'm pulling for you Trebupony!

what about dimond dogs?

Name: Johnathan

Race: Griffin (Owl)

Size: 4 feet 6 inches (all fours)
6 feet 2 inches (on hind legs)

Basic description: The avian half has the usual barn owl coloring, and shape. The Avian legs are a light gray. The feline half has a white underbelly, paws, and tail tuft, while the upper side of the feline body is a tawny brown coloring. His eyes are a dark brown-gold. His Build is on the lanky side. Wears a pair of Pince-nez framed glasses.

Though I can't say it was hard, having a Captain of a cargo airship as a parent was different than most usual griffin families. My mother was not so easily tied down to one place, or one employer, even after I was born, so from a chick to young griffin, I managed to see a large chunk of the world. So with me being such an impressionable kid I was, I ended up learning a lot about most of the nations, the language, customs, beliefs, ideals, and those themselves that lived in the countries that mother did jobs in. From what my mother tells me I could have been the ships translator.

So from where we went and what we did, it always piqued my curiosity to learn more and more. I soon started to gather a collection of books from every stop at each port. I gathered anything I could, Star Charts, Survival, Science, Mathematics, Physics, Mechanics, Medicine, well, it was pretty much anything that would help me, mother, or anything to do with the ship. My quarter's desk was hidden from the private library that I accumulated. I read every single book that was there, to the point were I, to this day, can recite each book word for word. Things were going good, life was simple and fine, until a mutiny happened.

One night, while we were anchored over a large bank of cloud cover around 15,000 feet, a few days short of getting to the airship hub of equestria, Cloudsdale, I was woken up by a battle weary mother, who woke me by the slamming and locking of my door. Then immediately the door was being banged on, which confused the Tartarus out of me, until I saw the look on my mother, fear. Apparently seeing me awake and fine either put her fears to rest or made her focus on her decision, I will never know. She quickly bashed open the window with her cutlass, grabbed me, tossed me out the window, and jumped out after me. Thankfully I was able to glide at my age, and also for me and mother being born with owl's wings letting us fly/glide quietly through the night sky. To this day we still don't know what happened to our ship.

So we flew for a day on our original course, to cloudsdale. By the time we got to cloudsdale, when we landed on the clouds I collapsed immediately. I remember hearing a few ponies try to get my attention by shaking me slightly, or poking me, but I passed out relatively quick. I woke up in a hospital a day or two later with my mother in a bed next to mine. After a week of medical, and magical healing, me and mother were let out, with warning to go easy on moving around to much. So there we both were. Both of all our possessions gone, besides my glasses which I grabbed before our flight, and mother's wedding tail ring.

So we spent the next few years finding a place to live, and a new lively hood, for mother swore she wouldn't captain a ship again. She hopped from job to job until settling with, ironically enough, managing cargo for a shipping company. I on the other hand went to school.

Long story short, I was picked on a lot at school, and a loner. I was the child that stuck his claw up in the air too much to be healthy, and me actively learning on the ship, I was ahead on most subjects. Me being a bit of a slow flyer didn't really help either. Things did get better though.

One School day, I met a fellow griffin, with a rainbow Pegasus. They were an odd pair, but me seeing a fellow griffin around my age, that was rare so I had to go say hi. I admit the first meeting with them wasn't the smoothest thing, but we did part with names after that. Eventually us three became good friends. Dash was the speed, Gilda was the charm, and I was the brains of the group. We had a few adventures together. Though a few years after our first meeting, at the teenaged flight camp, me and Gilda were separated from Dash, because we, as griffins had different flight styles. After our training, we heard from a few rumors there was going to be a race. Sadly we missed the race, but we saw what Dash did though. When she landed, (used her face to skid to a halt on the clouds) we went ballistic.

Eventually though we finished schooling, we separated to follow our own goals. I started to wander the world as a traveling scholar, seeing what I could learn about anything and everything. I met up with the two occasionally, to swap stories, but the times between the meet ups eventually grew and grew. That is until I heard odd rumors and occurrences started to happen within equestrian borders. About the discord, the rise of the crystal empire, the Changling attack on the capitol, and the elements of harmony. My surprise and interest was piqued when I one day heard a rumor about a Rainbow Dash being one of the elements. So I started to exchange letters with Rainbow Dash.

The stories that she told were absolutely amazing! My Rainbow Dash was saving the world, her country, and having a 'hoof' in preservation and protection of the newly found crystal Empire! Then one day she wrote about some odd hairless ape. Man, the stories she told about him! So when I heard this, my scholastic instinct told me to learn about this 'Miles'. When I arrived I met up with Dash, I saw a mare that could punch a whole through flipping concrete! We then fist/hoof bumps, stories, and news was shared. But when she started to talk about what a Spartan was, hoo boy! When she started, she just got this spark in her eye, and couldn't stop. She even jokingly suggested that I should become a Spartan. Even though she didn't really think about what she said, I thought about it.

When I went back to the hotel I was staying at I sat in bed thinking about what Dash said, I thought about my life. I thought about the mutiny that nearly cost me and my mothers lives, how bullies kicked the crap out of me, and what I could have done differently in my life if I was stronger, more able to act. I thought about how much stronger, more motivated, and more passionate, than what I remember of her, and I realize, I wanted that. I wanted that strength, that conviction, that motivation to stand up to what defeated me before, and those I love. I need it. So I went to sleep, with my mind filled with nothing but saying to Dash, "How do I sign up for being a Spartan?"

Name: YinBei Da XingXing
Size: 6'1" (on knuckles)
7'6" (standing on hind legs)
Race: Ape

Basic Description: Large, silver-back gorilla. One scar going down across his right eye. Missing his left cheek so you can see his teeth. Deep voice... aka: a great baritone.

Bio:

I was once a care-free creature. I lived among my fellows and my family in a small place named Bahnane Village just outside one of our major cities... and we were happy. Nothing very interesting happened, save for the odd wild animal attack, but our village Braves (our warriors) were always there to send them back or take them down. I was the odd one in my family. While my brothers became Braves, I chose not to, instead preferring the quiet life of a farmer. And though my body grew to that of a warrior, my mind could not match. And my family suffered shame for it, and it hurt me, but I could not find the drive to simply become one of the many who had come before me. I wanted to stand out, become greater than them, but that chance never came.

The day that everything changed for me, was the day she fell from the sky. I had been out in the fields, tending to our crops, when the loudest noise you would ever hear exploded out from the west. Looking up, I saw a streak of color in the sky, and it marveled me and held my attention, until I noticed the shape careening down from the same direction. Seeing that it was a creature that our village had traded with before (a “pony” I think they're called), I dropped my rake and knuckle ran to it's crash site.

Entering the forest, I could feel the buzz and chatter amongst the creatures that lived inside. There was an intruder, and they didn't like it. Reaching the downed creature, I noticed that it was limping around and muttering to itself. It hadn't noticed that I was there yet, but I could see that it was injured.

Calling out to it, I gave it my name. She yelped, and after some shaky introduction due to her never seeing anyone like me before, I learned that her name was Rainbow Dash and that she had actually fallen asleep while flying. Apparently she had somehow broken into a “Sonic Rainboom” during said sleep, and had crashed here, injuring her leg.

We conversed for some time, I told her that my village had traded with her kind before and she mentioned that our envoy had intrigued her. We enjoyed each others company for a time, but after a time she grew quieter and quieter. Asking what was wrong I was silenced. She pushed me into a bush then stood in the center of her crash-made clearing, calling out whatever it was that she had heard.

The forest exploded in loud chirps and growls as a familiar shape grew from the shadows. Soon, the shape of a massive boar almost filled the clearing, and my blood ran cold. This creature was named Varaha, and he was a demon in my village. Standing 10 feet tall, none of the braves could match him, and whenever he came near our village, we could only lock the animals away and hope for the best. Most of the time he merely stepped on the enclosures and ate what was left. He was a demon boar, and he had taken a liking to the taste of meat.

The weapons of many protruded from his back, past failed attempts to kill the great beast. And this little pony was staring it down like it considered him a warm-up. With a great roar, Varaha charged over and over, but Dash simply rolled to the side or slid underneath, with great ease. But as she tried to jump over it, I saw her grimace as she pulled her injured leg too far, and Varaha connected a charge.

She was thrown across the clearing and slammed into a tree, sliding to the ground, and Varaha readied to charge again. I saw what had to be done. I was not going to let this innocent little pony be killed while I stood by and did nothing. My honor would not allow it, and my family name would be shamed forever if I simply watched. I was going to save my new friend.

With a roar of my own, I charged out and blocked the path to Dash, daring Varaha to charge. I snorted, growled, snarled and roared... and all the while I was scared. But I did not move, I could not move, and I stayed, staring down the demon of my village.

With a mighty roar, Varaha charged. I did the only thing that came to mind, I charged as well. Stopping to brace myself, I lifted my arms, only to receive the full blunt force of the charging boar to my body. One of his long teeth ripped into my face, tearing my cheek out, but still I held on. I held until his charge slowed and soon I was not being pushed, but holding him in place. With pain lancing through my face, I let out a guttural roar, and using what strength I had left, I actually managed to lift the huge boar up over my head, and slammed it into the ground. One of the spears on Varaha's back pierced through, causing it to scream, get up, and flee.

I had driven Varaha back... by myself. Later, after me and Dash's injuries had been healed (to some extent... my cheek is never coming back), she left, but not before giving me an opportunity. To join the Regiment she herself was part of. The Spartans. It seems that effectively suplexing a ten-foot tall boar will get into a pony's: “Book of Awesome”... whatever that means, but it made me happy to hear it.

This was it, this was my chance. To become more than just a Brave. To be more. So I saved up some money, learned some secrets from our village's blacksmith, and took a train, then a boat, to the pony city of Manehatten. I got many odd looks there, but the guards seemed to treat me with respect at least. Finding a train to Moosden was easier.

Now I have a purpose again. I have a goal to reach through this “Spartan Training”. I will not fail. I cannot fail. For I must do what only I can do.

I must redeem my family's Honor.

Name: High Flyer, Male

Race:Pony, Pegasus

Size:4 Ft. 2 In.

Basic Description: Gray Coat, Dark Blue, Buzzed Mane. Silver eyes, and a Muscular build. Cutie Mark is a spear behind an eight point star.

I am a West-Coast pony, born and bred. I had a fairly easy life growing up in Concolt, a small village near San Franciscolt. My Father, Rough Hail, was a hardcore Weather pony. He led a strict house; no excuses, no complaints, and certainly no fighting. 'You don't fight with your Family' He always said, 'you fight FOR your family'. If you didn't give something every ounce of your effort, then he had no mercy if you failed. My biological mother died giving birth to my younger brother, Thunder Clap, when I was just one old. I never had the chance to actually know her, but I was told that she was the sweetest pony you could find. 'Kind, determined, and a maniac in bed' was all my father would tell me about her. It always broke him up to much to talk about her past that.

I never got the specifics on how it happened, but when I was 6, my father married the mare I will always think of as my mother: Xanica. A zebra, she was the most exotic thing that you could find in Concolt. Even though we existed near a major port, our small town never got to much traffic. Most of the inhabitants of Concolt worked in SF anyway. Xanica was our town's healer, and loved me and my brother as if we were her own foals.

When I was 8, I earned my Cutie Mark protecting Thunder Clap. Some bullies at school were making fun of him for having a Zebra as a step-mom, and Thunder became angry fast. when things started to escalate, I had to step in and help him. He may not have swung the first punch, but me and him swung the last... Until I knocked him on the head for starting a fight he couldn't have won alone. When we got home, Dad praised me for helping my brother, then had me rearrange the house's furniture for hitting him. Though we didn't experience it very often, ponies were cautious of our family, since we had the only Zebra in town.

When I turned 13, I got a job assisting the local Maritime Rescue Team. If a boat became stranded out in the water, or started to sink, the Pegasi on the team would fly out to assist as needed. Because I was only 13, my job consisted mostly of manual labor, unloading/moving/organizing supplies, carrying patients to a carriage to get the to the hospital, things like that. After a few months of helping ponies, I saw what was truly a first for me; another Zebra! Sure, my step-mother was a zebra, and she had told me and my brother a few stories of her travels, but this Zebra traveled the seas! He surely had some new stories to tell. Once he was cleared from the hospital, he decided to stay in town for awhile, since his ship was now at the bottom of the ocean. Zechoric was his name, and once you got him started, he could talk for hours. His ship had traveled from the Mid, to the Griffin Colonies, the Bear Soviet Union, and even to the Ape Lands! Every story he told got me more and more interested in my Step Mother's lineage.

I was hesitant, to say the least, about asking Xanica about her home, she had never really talked about it much. To my surprise, she was excited that I wanted to know more about my, extended, family's heritage. From then, until I left Concolt at the age of 18, Xanica taught me everything that she could about her homeland; from making simple potions (an area I had very limited success in) to traditions, hoof to hoof fighting, and even their language (of which I became fluent). My father and brother sat in on a few of our lessons, but they never grew to admire Zebra culture like I did. My father, wanting me to push myself to my limits, suggested one day that all of the lessons Xanica taught me should be spoken only in Zebra. It was tough and challenging at first, but as I grew more proficient in the language it only made the lessons more exciting.

When I was 16, Thunder Clap and one of his friends decided to make a raft and go out onto the ocean, thinking that it would impress the local mares. It may very well have worked, except they never came back to shore. Losing Thunder Clap devistated our family, but it definitely hit dad the worst. He poured himself into his work after it happened. Working more hours, and becoming more distant to his friends. I think that losing his first wife and his second son soured his outlook on the world around him, nature had taken away two of the things he loved most. Xanica and Me slowly became the only ponies (and Zebra) that he cared for.

2 years later, when I was 18, a recruiter for the Royal Guard came through my town, and he had me hooked immediately. With my lessons in Zebra language and fighting style, the Guard pony said that I was on a path to become one of the princesses best. My parents were concerned with my decision, my father not wanting to lose his only other son, and my mother naturally wanting things to be settled without fighting. No matter their opinions, they gave me their full support once they saw how badly I felt that I needed to join up. A month after that, I shipped out to basic training. Once the training was through, I was assigning to a Lieutenant Shining Armor, A Canterlot pony whose one goal in life was to keep the Princess and Equestria safe. He was a good pony, and turned out to be a better friend when I needed him. After my unit was finished training, we were sent on our first mission, to provide protection to a recently raided town on the coast. Concolt had been raided by a band of Griffon pirates in some of their airships, the few guards the town had were quickly killed by the griffons, who attacked in the middle of the night with numbers easily reaching a hundred.

Upon our arrival in the Concolt, I was devistated by the degree of destruction, almost a third of the town had been leveled by the griffins, and there were dead ponies everywhere. My heart ached to run home and find out exactly what had happened from my parents, but being a native, Lt. Armor had me lead the unit to the mayor, who would then move us where we were needed. Once that was done, Shining Armor gave me permission to find my family. I rushed to my house, only to find the door and all of the windows shattered. I slowly walked into my foalhood home, walking through the rooms in a daze until I came to my parents bedroom. Rough Hail and Xanica lay in the middle of their bedroom, in a puddle of their own blood, surrounded by the bodies of 5 deceased Griffins.

5 years later, Shining Armor contacted me, saying that he wanted to introduce me to someone, someone who could use a pony with drive and devotion. He told me all about Miles and the Spartans. just like when that recruiter came to Concolt, I was hooked and wanted nothing more than to join those Spartans and to help them bring an end to the unjust. Shining told me to find a 'cause', or something that drives me. I didn't have to think long. Protection. The one thing that keeps me going is protecting those who can't protect themselves. I don't enjoy killing (though I will never hesitate when it comes to bad griffins), I am willing to give every last effort to stop ponies from going through what I went through. Just like Dad, Thunder Clap, and Xanica would want me to.

Would it be weird to have a treant try to join the spartans? Cause I can totally write the backstory for it.

Name: Elleschzier Shadow-stepper, but please, Ellzy is just fine. Male

Race: Griffin (Hawk, in case you didn’t want to be racist thank you very much!)

Size: About eleven inches… oh, I mean lean build. Speed is my thing… but not in a bad way.

Basic Description: Good looking, or so I think. Black feathers that have a couple spots that end in white cover my front half. It adds personality.

My beginnings were fairly normal. Dad was the stoic soldier, proud to have seven sons. Disappointed to have two daughters. There are only eight of us. I am gay. Most don’t really care, especially here in Birdlin, but for my dad… yeah. Let’s not go there. I guess you could say I’m bi, I’ve had a few females in my time, enjoyed their company. But it’s not something I look for. Whatever, this isn’t my coming out of the closet speech. Where was I?

Oh yeah, so, I have daddy issues, surprise, surprise. From the time I was ten to… heck, now I guess, I’ve always tried to live up to his expectations. He was a soldier, so I joined in. It seemed like the thing to do. Training was… tough. The Griffin Colonies have a very strict, don’t ask don’t tell, policy. But… I guess that caught wind of me pretty fast. Then again, going at it in a broom closet, breaking all of the brooms for D-wing, wasn’t very stealthy… I never did get his name actually.

Dad was furious, this was how I basically came out to him, and disowned me. Most of my brothers were with him, shaming me, but I had two little angels on my side. Lesky and Ulla. Mom and Sis. Together we left Birdlin and set out to make a new start. It was hard, but we slowly found our way to a place that would accept us. A new town, a new country. Moosden.

Don’t ask how I found this place. I think I heard about it in the middle of a romp with some earth pony. A new beginning where any bird could go and be equal. Plenty of job opportunities. What’s not to faun over? So, we made the trip there and that’s where my family now lives… the ones I care about at least. It was easy going there. I got a job cutting lumber, made a few friends (mainly a pair of lesbian ponies), and got sick abs from working so hard. Mom got a job working relations for Terradisia. That’s the country we had to join in order to get this living arrangement. Not a bad set up really. Sexy soldiers walk around, benefits, sexy soldiers walking around, what’s not to like?

Whelp, this goes on for about a year and Mom gets a letter from Dad. He wants her back. They begin to send letter back and forth and she eventually flies him and the others out here. Ends up the food is running out over in the G.C. and tensions are getting high. When they got here, they were some of the rudest, aggravating… just… assholes! They boasted and taunted the Spartans, tried to intimidate Bantler, and made Shadow cry! I had had enough at that point. I told them off… loudly… in the town square… during a citizens meeting.

Needless to say my Dad didn’t like it and decided to stand up for himself. I… I couldn’t fight back. What? Asshole or not he’s still my father and I still respect him so. He would punch, claw and yell at me, but I would keep getting up. Each time asking him if he was done. An hour later he finally stormed off with all of my brothers. Mom and Sis came to my side… and so did the sex symbol named Miles. During my time there I had developed a little crush on the guy. He was exotic and very accepting. I remember I told him I was gay and he told me he was married. Ever since then he would come to me for advice about whatever Luna actually meant. He was doomed most of the time, poor bastard.

After my ass kicking he pulled me aside and asked me what happened. I told him the events that occurred, but he shook his head.

“No, that’s not what happened. What happened is that you faced your fear, stood for what was right, and thought like a Spartan. We need soldiers like you. We train next week, be there.”

Well, who could say no to a pretty face? I took the training and passed with flying colors! Private Lars Shadow-stepper of the Terradisian Spartan Regiment! It was tough, but with my cause of Respect I had survived.

Now I fight for what’s right, because it’s right. I am a team member of the worlds most powerful regiment and will change the world.

After I passed I asked if I could go visit my father. I needed to tell him some things. Miles agreed and I was sent there… in ten minutes. Damn technology is awesome. I walked up to my old home and stepped inside after nine years. He was alone, on the couch, reading a paper. We talked. I told him about my joining the Spartans and he laughed. He said that my brothers joined a real army, the Griffin army. I begged him to come back to Equestria with me. Things were not going well for the G.C. He said real griffins don’t run from their homeland.

He began to get furious, saying that I was ruining the family name. After I left I somehow ran into one of my brothers and he told me some… unsettling things. Dad had pulled some strings and labeled me a traitor to the Griffin Colonies. Should any of my brothers, or any griffin officials for that matter, find me in their borders… its death. Oddly enough, they are all for this.

I respect my father. He has done great things in his past and loves his family. But he has his mind closed to the world. Things are changing, and if you don’t move with them… you get left behind.

If my brothers wish to kill me, so be it. But they should know that this Spartan isn’t going down without fight.

1222189 Sorry, it's a no. Remember to check the listings of plausible characters.

1222196 Do you have a language picked out for the elemental's primordial language then? I got an interesting idea for a back story but it wouldn't really fit well with a short lived race.

1222200 Dude, no elementals either. did you not read his past blog post about playable characters? :rainbowhuh:

1222573 I thought I did. link me to it?

Umm sry but what were the names of the 3 ponies that kept calling rainbow dash rainbow crash in the sonic rainboom episode
I can't remember

1222585 http://www.fimfiction.net/blog/184651/the-world-of-man-of-war
there, thats the list of playable and non-playable character types. your welcome :rainbowwild:

1222631 Dumb-Bell, Hoops, and Score are the names you're looking for.

1222635 ...I saw nothing in there saying that elementals were out of bounds for make-a-character events like this one.

1222647 right above donkeys, it says "Non-Playable Characters"...
anything from donkeys down are not playable.

I have a question. I have the thing all writen out, but I don't want everyone to see it. It's on a google drive thing so I could let other people's see it, but I don't want everyone to see it, just like the writer people's. so... What should I do?

1222676 PM him a direct link and tell him exactly what it(the link) is for. If that works for him good for you. If not then follow whatever directions he tells you to follow. If it goes ignored then you'll have to post it here.

~Reflect

1224083 No I mean being different geez how you got in was your own damn business - Shifted Path

1224084 oh sorry? ~Reflect
Also, I was wondering if you wanted to help me make a Draconic character? ~Yesterday

1224092 a dragon? well sure we could probably float some ideas around but is dragons in the man of war universe blog? Then again changelings weren't either:rainbowlaugh:

1224096 well I dunno, there are 11 entries so far, so that give us a 1/6 (i think...) chance of winning. If we made more we would have a larger chance.

1224099 well 1/3 since TB said he would already choose three of his own. But yeah that makes sense ok but you should probably send me a message of your idea don't need free ideas floating around in the comments section :rainbowwild:

1224104 or... We could utilize a google doc, then copy et paste. 'Cept it's 12:45 in the morning for me... Maybe tomorrow. Meh...
