    Update on a Coffee Break

Just taking a little afternoon break with a nice cup of coffee. While I wait for that to sweep away some of the afternoon fog, I thought I'd shift focus for a few minutes and throw out a small update on my progress. For those that haven't seen it yet, feel free to check my previous blog post for a more general update on my

    New Beginnings

Wow, life is one hell of a rollercoaster. I've been on all sorts of ups and downs the past year and it feels kinda like I'd need a story unto itself just explain everything. The short of it is that I've finally taken the plunge, jumped far off into the deep end and gone back to school, moved into a new place, went through at least two bouts of depression, quit my tabletop group and lost touch

    Hi Again

Okay, I'm still not one to make huge posts going over every detail of how much my life sucks, and how it's constantly getting in the way of me being a productive writer, but I still want to let anyone who still cares know what's up.

Status and Motivations. Also, AMA continued. · 12:39pm Jun 5th, 2013

So, yeah, doing a bit better. Not much, situation still sucks right now.

As for writing, well it's good news/bad news time.

Good news is that I do actually have some motivation to write something.
Bad news, it's none of my current stories.

So, yeah... new project. Sorry. Having managed to start some words flowing for this story, though, is a massive relief. More than just being able to write, to want to write, is that I've been wanting to do this particular story for over a year. Not going to kid myself, this thing is dauntingly huge. Still I've finally got the pieces in place to move forward and fill in all the details with sweet, sweet story.

It's hardly the usual fare of romance and comedy that I've put out here so far. Hopefully, some of you will enjoy the results of my planning and effort on this project.

Also, because I'm silly and crave additional social interaction, I'm extending another offer of Ask Me Anything. I'll be off to work soon, but I'll take a crack at anything I find here once I get home today. No real time limit on this one, it'll close itself when questions dry up.

What do think Celestia and Twilight's relationship is? How do you prefer to see it portrayed?

Who is best princess? :pinkiehappy:

Pancakes. Good food, or BEST food.

Noo! I need more Twilight's Bird Feeder. But good luck anyhow on the new stories.
Also do you have a bird feeder, or something like that?

Slightly delayed response, GO!

1125695 The idea that makes the most sense to me is that Twilight reveres Celestia as something akin to a living deity, while Celestia treats Twilight as a mixture of her student and her daughter. Personally, Momlestia is just heart-meltingly sweet.

TWilight might be my favorite pony, but until I see some more screen time of her in princess mode, I'm leaving Luna as my favorite princess. I've just utterly adored her since Nightmare Night, and there are so many ways to have fun writing her. That, and her design just really appeals to me.

Pancakes are good, but not best.

1125746 I do have a bird feeder. A nice wooden one I made myself years ago.

1127780
Momlestia is best 'lestia. This site needs more momlestia stories. Though always remember, Twilight has ACTUAL parents too. //dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Twilight_Sparkle_lolface.png

1127839 I like Momlestia for two key reasons. First, filly Twilight is freaking adorable. Second, I like to think that Celestia doesn't get to really connect with her subjects very often, so when Twilight came along it triggered her maternal instincts.

I highly doubt that Twi didn't still see her parents regularly, they live in the same city after all. But, for me the fascination of the relationship is more that Twilight allowed Celestia to genuinely connect with someone else for the first time in a very long time, possibly even the first time since she lost Luna. Twilight would have also been, possibly, the closest thing Celestia has ever had to a daughter. The close relationship that developed from those circumstances is chock full of potential stories and D'awww moments.

1127857
And yet, 90% of the time, a story that examines their relationship will involve romantic love between the two, either as something that has been beneath the surface the whole time, or as something that is just beginning.
Momlestia also has potential effects on Luna and Twilight's relationship as well, especially if you ship them.

1128343 That 90% I blame on the massive shipping culture in the fandom. That and the fact that Celestia has only two meaningful relationships that we know about: Twilight and Luna. I have nothing against romantic Twiliestia as long as it believably addresses the the difference in power between them. Twilight could never be in a healthy relationship with Celestia unless she stops completely idolizing her. They can't be "Twilight and the Princess", it has to be "Twilight and Celestia". Most ship stories don't address that issue at all, hence why I tend to shy away from them.

And yes, Momlestia with a TwiLuna ship has much potential, especially if Luna is portrayed as brash/forward/lusty or such. I always imagined that Celestia herself was a large reason why Twilight never had much social interaction, particularly why she was probably never asked out on a date. It's daunting enough when a girl's parents make subtle threats about not letting their daughter get hurt, but the thought of someone as powerful as Celestia looming behind Twilight with a protective glare aimed your way would pretty much terrify any colt that didn't have 100% pure intentions and balls of adamantium. Of course, all it takes is one such occurrence for rumors to start and utterly kill any chance of other guys even approaching her.

I can imagine that same scenario with the two sisters: Luna wanting Twi, with Celestia immediately going into protective mother mode over the idea.

Love that avy, btw. I adore leggy looking pony designs.:twilightblush:

1128518
My sis' art style trends towards lanky. She drew my old avatar as well. I bought her a computer, so I get free commissions. :yay: Did you see her Dotted Line pic? :rainbowkiss: (Yes, I am totally shameless. :moustache:)

Speaking of Celestia going mama bear, I have found that stories and art that depict Celestia completely wrecking someone's sh:yay:t for hurting Twilight in some way are often rather gratifying to me in a way. I just like seeing her completely lose any kind of restraint where Twilight is involved. Luna as well actually. Hurt her ponies, make Celestia upset. Hurt Twilight or Luna, and Celestia will reduce you to a fine powder. Hell, even just threaten them and you risk immolation. Celestia comforting Twilight is another guilty pleasure.
Oh lord, imagine her being presented with the classic sadistic choice. Twi and Luna are in danger, and she can only save one. :fluttershysad:
Assuming she doesn't just drop the sun on whatever the problem is. :trollestia:

1128836 I might have seen it, was it the one Ghost posted on his blog?

And yes, I just really can't see a situation where Celestia would let someone get away with hurting Twilight. That's one of the biggest things I hated about Romance Reports and similar "drag Twilight through the emotional ringer" fics.

Oh dear, that is a sadistic choice to put Celestia through. I can certainly imagine sun-dropping if that happened. That could really be an amazing tragedy, forcing her to make that choice. Even as detached as she seems to be, I doubt she would be the same after that if her choice caused either Twilight or Luna to end up dead.

1128861
Hmm, who do you think she would ultimately choose? Her surrogate daughter? Or the little sister she only JUST got back?

Oh jeez, this would KILL her.

Ya, same pic as the one Ghost showcased. She did one for Quizzical too, if you are familiar with Jmac's writing.
And she has done a pic for Kobal. What of? It's a seeeeeeecret. :pinkiecrazy:

1128870 I have Quizzical on my read list, but have just not gotten to it.

Koba's already shown those those to me. We talked about his new character [REDACTED] (stealing from Tast) for 3 hours straight the other day. And by we I mean him. To be fair, that was after I spent 3 hours detailing the plot of the story I'm working on that is mentioned in this blog post.

Yes, it honestly took 3 hours just tell him the plot via text. No, I wasn't exaggerating when I said the project is huge.

As for who Celestia would choose, I don't honestly know. I could see it going either way, though I could see her saving Luna, just so she'd have someone to comfort her for more than a couple of decades.

1128896
READ QUIZZICAL. :derpytongue2:

Kobal has become very fond of [REDACTED], hasn't he? :ajsmug: Though, in fairness, considering the input I have ended up having, I am rather fond of [EENOPE] too.

I can see her saving Luna, because she can't stand the thought of experiencing the pain of losing her sister again, possibly permanently. She may try to justify it to herself by telling herself that Twilight was going to die anyway. It would likely help about as much as you could imagine. Bonus points since/if the decision leaves Luna a mess too, considering Twilight was instrumental in saving her from Nightmare, and helping her to integrate in modern society better, as perhaps her first friend, EVER. More bonus points if Luna was crushing on Twilight for above reasons.

I look at that last passage, and wonder what the hay is wrong with me. :applejackconfused:

1129010 I can say I had a fairly tiny influence on [REDACTED], but the whole character is just adorable... and leggy. Just the way I likes em.

Nothing wrong with ya. That's pretty much a perfect tragedy fic waiting to be written, and I'd read the heck out of it. So many feels and so much potential growth there. Only thing missing is the lead up and the actual plot that would force such a decision. Although, an ex post facto starting point could even avoid needing that set up and just strictly deal with the aftermath while leaving the actual event up to the readers' imaginations. That would be an awesome sad fic, just dealing with the sisters' emotions and trauma after such an event.

Now we just need to get a good sad fic writer and "convince" him/her to write this.:scootangel:
