An Overview of Doctor Who: Series 7 · 5:27pm May 19th, 2013
With The Name of the Doctor aired, series 7 has finally drawn to a close. So, I've decided to give a quick, one-sentence summary as well as a score for each of the 15 episodes that make up this series (this includes the Christmas specials) for the heck of it. I'll just note here that the following scores and such are based off my opinions and I respect the opinions of anyone who disagrees with me. *Warning* Some spoilers will be mentioned.
Whilst still a pretty forgettable Christmas special, The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe still manages to provide a few good performances, some fun moments, and a heartwarming ending. 6/10 - OKAY
Asylum of the Daleks is a fun collaboration of old and new Daleks coupled with moving development in Amy and Rory's relationship with themselves and the Doctor, intense moments, and a fun character in the form of Oswin Oswald; despite there being a few rough patches here and there. 8/10 - GREAT
While not a truly memorable or spectacular episode, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship still provides an entertaining and diverse cast of characters as well as a fun premise. 7/10 - GOOD
A Town Called Mercy suffers greatly from poor pacing but still offers interesting dialogue, a smart look at redemption, an enthralling western setting, and an intimidating gunslinger. 6/10 - OKAY
The Power of Three is a fun slice-of-life episode with great comedic moments, a deep look at the Doctor's friendship with the Ponds, and a good reintegration of the Lethbridge-Stewart family. 8/10 - GREAT
While home to a few debatable problems (as well as the introduction of an ability that makes the Weeping Angels slightly overpowered), The Angels Take Manhattan is still an outstanding episode with fantastic performances from the main cast, powerful moments, an enthralling noir theme, and a fitting departure for companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams. 9/10 - OUTSTANDING
While the episode suffers a bit from a weak climax and disappointing villains, The Snowmen saves itself gracefully with amazing performances, great characters, and a perfect start to Series 7: Part 2's overall plot mystery. 9/10 - OUTSTANDING
Despite a familiar premise and a pretty misleading title, The Bells of Saint John still gives great moments, strong performances, an interesting villain, and a good “reintroduction” for Clara Oswald. 8/10 - GREAT
While the episode suffers from an all-over-the-place plot, The Rings of Akhaten still provides great throwbacks to the show's past, fun alien designs, a good backstory for Clara, and shining performances from the main cast. 7/10 - GOOD
Cold War is a great “bottle” episode for Doctor Who with a perfect cast, a fantastic reintroduction of the Ice Warriors, a threatening villain, and several funny moments to remember; despite some of the cast being underused and the ending coming swift and slightly without punch. 8/10 - GREAT
Despite an awkardly-shifting tone, Hide still gives a creepy atmosphere, an interesting twist, and a believable love story. 8/10 - GREAT
While Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS may not have been as good as it could have been, it was still a great episode with references to the show's past, a fun journey through the insides of the TARDIS, some incredibly creepy monsters, and fantastic performances from Jenna-Louise Coleman and Matt Smith. 8/10 - GREAT
The Crimson Horror is a spectacular episode that offers an interesting mystery; a fun return for Vastra, Jenny, and Strax; a deep Victorian theme; several memorable moments; and amazing performances from guests Diana Rigg and Rachael Stirling. 9/10 - OUTSTANDING
Despite a few rough patches and a slightly "kid-friendly" vibe, Nightmare in Silver is still a fun episode with great performances, intense moments, and a creepy return for the Cybermen. 8/10 - GREAT
The Name of the Doctor is simply a perfect episode with threatening villains; fantastic throwbacks to the show's past; a great return for Vastra, Jenny, and Strax; a heartbreaking farewell for River Song; a satisfying answer to the mystery of Clara Oswald; and an ending reveal that leaves the viewer desperately longing for the upcoming 50th anniversary while still remaining satisfied with the episode. 10/10 - PERFECT
I would give asylum of the Daleks more points but that's just 'cause I'm a complete Dalek fanboy.
Dinosaurs on a Spaceship is definitely more than 7/10 just for the title alone. Dinosaurs on a spaceship!
I like A Town Called Mercy more as well probably because I'm a Christian.

I give it an 8/10 just because of the title.
So ridiculous of an idea, and yet so utterly awesome simultaneously.
