Writing Wrap-Up: As Long As You're Living · 4:16am May 13th, 2013
Well... today has been breathtaking.
This work took me more than a few days just to edit and more than a few weeks to write, but in the end I can honestly say it was a few weeks well spent. I'm sorry for not having been very active since YLB. School-work and plotting this story have been taxing to say the least.
I know the idea of having Luna and Scootaloo in a dreamworld might be a bit cliche, but I thought it could have been exceptionally useful in working with the storyline from Love, in Other Words. In the end, I'm glad this work can be included into that storyline: it amalgamates everything I had ever wanted to have explained about Scootaloo's circumstances and more, as well as bringing the whole thing to a nice close. As far as I can see, this work will be the one and only side-story to Love, in Other Words... unless I get some other great idea to tack onto it. But let's be honest: LIOW's not big enough to be lauded with side-stories. This one, however, was one tale I couldn't pass up telling.
And I cannot tell you how glad I am that I got the chance to tell it.
Scootaloo has been the rag-doll for so many different authors, myself included... and while her predicament has never been fully explained, each and every one of use creates our own little headcanon as to why she cannot fly. Maybe she's just an anomaly. Maybe it was neglectful parents and drug use which impacted her. It could have been a whole lot of things... but regardless of what it is, she is a character who contains a whole lot more character than many give her credit for. In my own view of her life, this is how I saw her growing up. It may not be as sunshiney and sparkly as the series might be, but sometimes the most powerful things aren't pretty. Sometimes you have to be broken to know how valuable and important it is to have someone there to make you whole. Many people don't get that chance, so I'm thankful more than I can ever possibly say that I've been lucky enough to have a Mom who helps me be a better person.
My third completed work has officially been finished, and I have to say: the response has been very heartening indeed. Lots of faves from a whole variety of people, and all comments (all three of them, one of them mine) have been encouraging (and pretty funny... thanks creepyhoboinabox. Your post that was a big factor in making my day.)
But here's where my day gets really interesting!
More on that as it develops, but here's a taster:
One of my favorite authors might... I repeat... might read this here work. If I get a good response from him, I might just roll over and die.
In the end, I learned a whole helluva lot, but mainly: hug your Moms and tell them you love them. You never know when you won't have that chance anymore. That's what I learned from writing this. It's short and simple, but overwhelmingly profound... at least to me. It's something I haven't done enough of, and one thing I'm going to do right now.
Until we meet again, my warmest regards and a whole lot of love. You guys are the reasons I write, and I couldn't do it without you.
