My work with 'The Razorwing Chronicles' · 8:33pm Mar 22nd, 2012

Greetings fillies and gentlecolts. I also recognize any dragons, humans, hydras, minotaurs, gryphons or other non-ponies that might be reading this blog.

Now that everyone's attention has been recognized (assuming I have gotten any at all), I would like to cover a little background on my current work, 'The Razorwing Chronicles'. Yes, this means I intend to write additional fictions in the future. If you can find a really good reason to not like my work, let me know so I can keep from embarrassing myself in more than one story.

TRC started as a basic plot line thought up between my friends and I. I'm probably the most prominent 'novelist/progressive' writer amongst my friends, and so I used their ideas mainly as a springboard for my own. Still, they will be credited fully once the story has reached its end.

Our first plan of attack was actually to design a running comic strip using the main six to combat an ancient, forgotten evil. This plan is still in action, but the artists in our group are currently tied up in other projects. At any rate, this ancient evil eventually took form as Razorwing, a magically imbued elder dragon from a time long forgotten. However, the comic does little to express how Razorwing became so powerful; a major flaw in many novels, movies, fictions and other media.

An under-defined villain is, in my opinion, just as disappointing and hard to follow as an underdeveloped hero. Without the necessary background, nobody would be able to really understand Razorwing's motives, or his true power. Without knowing these things, the task the mane six face trying to defeat him really becomes lackluster, as he just becomes another cartoon villain.

Instead, I chose to delay the comic and write a mini-series type fiction about Razorwing himself, and his rise to power. But of course, no good FiM fiction is complete without ponies; so instead of using the mane six to begin with, I decided to track the progress of the mane six's ancient ancestors. It is a strong parallel to the comic coming out shortly after the story's completion, but with character differences subtle, yet firm, enough to hold the reader's attention across both stories. The plots of the two tales are completely separated and unique however, only sharing Razorwing and similar pony characters in common.

I am excited to continue 'The Ancient War', as its an excellent chance to develop my writing skills further, as well as to outline the main villain in what I hope and believe will become a popular story. I truly do love Razorwing's character, though clearly I am biased as he is one of my OC's. Still, I hope other readers and writers find inspiration from and learn to enjoy my characters throughout their trials and tribulations.

So stay up late, grab a beer (or if you're like me, a bottle of Jack) and take a seat. Mentally prepare yourself for an epic adventure the likes of which Equestria has never seen. And if you enjoy reading it as much as I love writing it, tell your friends. I love to have comments, both negative and positive. And let's be honest: I'm writing this for you, the readers. I already know the plot. It's a movie in my head that I'm putting on paper for everyone else to enjoy.

So you all had damned well better, because I'm working my ass off over here. Have fun.

Razorbeam out.
