Story Idea 03: Moons

This is for story ideas anyone can use and modify however they wish, just be creative and thoughtful I guess.

Okay, so this is a weird one. And not fully thought out in any way so it would take some work. Consider it an idea and inspiration starter.

Future Edit: This is also the one I think is the weakest and hard to build off of.
Go read the others, I kind of regret this one but I won't kill it.

So I kind of wondered about the "mare in the moon" side of things from the pilot. The obvious connection to the 'man in the moon' we can see in Luna (the moon, not the fan-slobber inducer) makes it seem like that face everyone can see has been there for a long time (*cough*1000*cough*). The face disappears on Princess Luna's release, so it could be reasoned everypony freaked and then found out about the events of the pilot then settled but... What about kingdoms elsewhere that see the disappearance? Well, I guess Celestia can reassure them (given they need her for day/night anyway). Or it could be the name 'mare in the moon' refers to the end of the prologue story rather than an actual visual moon feature and that face showed up only that night. But, that has problems too. Ugh, many ways to go with this bit of plot, many ways to explain away parts, but (again) not fully thought out.

Mainly, I'm writing that to preface the main suggestion part (barren as it is...). The day/night cycle and general fantasy elements to MLP give the impression this is not a planet but some realm or land or such that you shouldn't go too far from the center, instead of a planet. If it was a planet, nighttime eternal means killing the sun (no just no) or stopping the planet's rotation (half burns, half freezes, a ring survives). So, yeah, not a planet. This made me wonder if the moon that rises each night is the same one, given the 'mare in the moon' one against the rest of the series. And led to the idea of Celestia having multiple moons, for backup or sister punishment or who knows what.

The only thing I came up with when thinking 'how the hell do I do something on this?' was about a pony experimenting with rockets, seperated from any town so Celestia doesn't know, goes up, finds the moon is a big fortress/labyrinth/castle/facility/whosahatsit, is brought with the moon into the (am I actually writing this?) moon garage, discovers all the moons and their purposes, finds still locked up real Princess Luna, battles way to... something. Escape? Destroy the fake moons? *shrug* I'm sure someone could do something better with this little idea. Could definitely work better as a silly or bizzare one-shot.

Yeah, had to get this out rather than let it sit as a 3DS note forever.

Oh, and crack theory add-on. Remember the two shooting stars in Apple Family Reunion that some of the staff said were supposed to represent Applejack's dead parents? Then remember the first episode where the stars "aided the return" of Nightmare Moon. Celestia turned AJ's parents into stars to unlock her sister in the (at that time) near future.
