This is for story ideas anyone can use and modify however they wish, just be creative and thoughtful I guess.
The inspiration for this one comes from one of many things Star Trek DS9 did well, a view of the Federation and humans from the perspective of other species. Here's one of the big ones: [youtube=youtube.com/watch?v=6VhSm6G7cVk]
That leads me to this story idea. Friendship, compassion, and peacefulness are concepts a number of species in MLP have, but you can easily see it as a very pony way of thinking. By their nature, dragons, changelings, and griffons (supposedly) stand opposite to these. That is their way, that is their culture, that is just how they are.
In the episodes, we see many instances of the ponies turning someone around to their way of thinking or wishes. A number of times that does not succeed, but it has happened. A dragon who submits to the will of a pony (Dragonshy) would be shamed and outcast. What's worse, if those ideas actually took hold and they began to be more like the pony ideal, they would be reviled. The episodes show the spread of friendship, but that spread is like a curse of weakness in their eyes. Its almost like a twisted mirror version of someone in real life taking up violent ideals and being rejected or locked up by society.
I'm not sure that this as just a concept has enough to become a story, but it would definitely help flesh out a fic told from a foreign side. And, at the same time, it gives a creepy context to existing fics where a different species slowly learns about, and submits to, the pony way of life.
