Story Idea 10: Mirrored Romance

This is for story ideas anyone can use and modify however they wish, just be creative and thoughtful I guess.

Let me start off by saying both comic spoilers and EqG-related post. If you don't want to be spoiled on the comics, turn back now, get it done, and return. If you hate Equestria Girls, then this post isn't for you anyway, so just turn back.

Next, if you need a recap or if you don't care about spoilers yet have not read the comics, then a quick bit of vital summary. In the Reflections arc of the comics, we see that there used to be many more mirrors connecting to other worlds. Starswirl created them to explore these other realms and did so alongside Celestia. In one world, Celestia met a kind version of Sombra as ruler of the pony kingdom there. More trips resulted in the two falling in love. Starswirl discovered repeated visitation of a single alternate world slowly brought the two connected worlds closer together until they would tear into each other and either fuse (in a copies-become-one way) or destroy both. Celestia continued to visit behind Starswirl's back. Eventually, Starswirl discovered this and destroyed the mirror for Celestia's own good. That's all the backstory, most of the comic revolves around the mane six finding all this out and dealing with the alternate world and making them seperate again or else the world-tearing would occur. Also of note, as the worlds grew close, anything done to one affected the copy too (punch bad Celesta, good Celestia hurt too).

So that brings me to Equestria Girls and the romance within that. Flash and Twilight have had an almost-thing for the two movies so far (and now that Sunset got her deserved time, maybe Flash can get his). The problem, thanks to the comic's story, is that this relationship cannot work. And Twilight knows that now (and might have known in RR). As it stands, she knows of the pony Flash and each has shown... interest in each other, but that's it so far as we've seen. The human Flash is the one who is clearly into her and trying to get closer, and he is doing that even though he knows she is from another world and unlikely to ever be around with the way things are.

The story I would want to see would be one looking into the relationship of pony Twilight and human Flash, as it is, as it can (or cannot) become, and in what it could do. Whether Twilight tells him this truth or not, she would be reluctant to keep visiting. Having seen what could happen, she wouldn't put her entire existence at risk like that. But she could mirror the younger Celestia, telling herself that one more visit couldn't hurt and giving into small temptations as the larger problem slowly grows closer and closer.

Flash on the human end would be an analysis of why he is interested in Twilight. Why'd he go for her in the first place? How did his past relation with Sunset affect anything? Biggest of them all, now that he knows Twilight is from another world and rarely can see her, why does he still go after her? Is it a misplaced crush? Probably not. But it may be feelings that do not go as deep as he might hope. Or, if they do go that deep, why?

The pony Flash should be in here is some manner or another. It might be better to have him not appear and only discussed in thought and conversation. Twilight should consider the two Flashes against each other and whether it is fair to look at them the same or to consider one over the other for purely situational reasons. Is he the right one to go for or is he just a substitute because the other is problematic?

Lastly, human Twilight is an option, but that could entirely change how you do the story. As I conceive it, this would be going into the whys, the feelings, and the reasons regarding pony Twi and human Flash and less of actions and adventure and whatnot. Human Twilight was shown in RR, but she'll most likely get her own time in EqG3. Know that introducing her into this will wrench the dynamics to work very differently. That might be the story you are going for, but I'd recommend only tackling it if that is the case.
