Not a SOON post. Sorry. · 5:38pm Mar 11th, 2013
Quick update for readers out there:
My last chapter update was posted on a Tuesday. It got a really disappointing new reader count because of the weekday and time of the day, so I’ve made a decision to save my updates for Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I will continue to do the SOON blog posts as I have in the past, so expect to see an update within 24 hours after seeing one.
Of course, if I had kept to my three week goal, that meant the chapter should have been rolled back to and updated last weekend. Quite frankly it wasn’t going to happen. The chapter has some of the most important plot development to date and a bit of a capstone to for the introductory chapters. I’m cashing in on a lot of early tension, so I want to get it just right. I’m sorry for the delay, but if I ever feel I have to choose between delays and potential retcons, I will pick delays every time.
This doesn’t mean I came here with nothing to offer.
When I joined the Writer’s Group IRC, it was a down week and the chat was almost dead. Two others were testing the waters at about the same time I was and we got to talking story. One of those is FrontSevens, who has made it into the mighty featured box and is an all around good guy. If you haven’t checked out Hope and Changeling yet, I strongly suggest it.
The other gent is SomeponyNew. At the time he had about a dozen chapters of what I thought to be an entertaining tale posted, but he was having trouble moving the plot forward and felt he could do better. SomeponyNew, FrontSevens and I must have spent twenty hours that week just happily talking about this story and finally one day, with renewed energy, he took it down.
You read that right. I was shocked, and still kind of am even looking back. It was a good story.
Somepony went from being moderately sure he could do better to completely positive, and not in the “heart of the cards” sort of way, either. He went and found all the rough spots and revamped his outline from scratch, fleshing out characters and reinventing themes. He’s been working on the outlines and story for months. Now it’s time for that work to pay off.
Apocrypha was approved for submission with prologue and chapter one on Friday, and knowing what I know I can tell you it promises to be an interesting ride. Those of you who read ViM have probably noticed I am an epic-story lover, and I hope to be getting a regular fix of my epic addiction from this story in the future. Seriously, go check it out.
Like right now.
Why are you still here? Go, now!
Hope and Changeling, huh? I might give that one a shot. ;D
But in all seriousness, people, go read Apocrypha. Do it!
