Haters gon' hate, but please don't hate on lesbians · 5:24am Mar 12th, 2012
While I'm usually above responding to negative criticism when it makes as much sense as Justin Beiber's popularity, I felt I couldn't let this slide without at least giving my take. As I sit here enjoying my hookah and eating some delicious rice crackers, I must say that I'm disgusted.
The brony culture is founded on the ideal of love and tolerance; "love and tolerance" does not include the caviat of "except gay people".
When I originally decided to use the FlutterDash ship in I Might Have Been, I didn't view it as a "lesbian relationship". I viewed it as a relationship, because gender should not dictate who and who we're not allowed to love. As I wrote that story and versed myself in Rainbow's personality, whether or not she was in love with another female became irrelevant; all that mattered at that point is that she loved Fluttershy, and gender didn't mean a damn thing.
While I know most of you reading this weren't the ones hating on lesbian relationships, I felt the need to share my feelings regardless. Love is love, no matter who it is between. Judging a story based on who it pairs is bad enough, but labeling a relationship as "wrong" simply because it involves two women (or mares) is an atrocity of the highest order.
Do I believe Rainbow Dash is a lesbian? No, because I'm blind to sexual orientation. I believe that in this particular story, Dashie loved Fluttershy, and that's all I cared about.
Love and tolerance extends to all individuals, not just those who choose to be with the opposite gender.
Well, I've said my piece.
The 'Haus is out, everypony.
*Applause* Very well said! I agree completely.
Was this really a problem? HERE of all places? That's just sad. Ah well, don't let it bother you, guy. You put together a really good story, but there will always be a few bad apples in your viewership trying to bring down the whole bunch.
Sad that it happened in this community, though. Ugh.
Doesn't matter where you are, people will always hate and fear what they are afraid of and don't understand.
I'm a straight male myself, I have lesbian, gay and bi friends. I honestly don't care, as long as it doesn't effect me or put them at risk I don't care what anyone does and that goes especially true for matters of the heart.
You don't choose who you love. If you just love someone of the same gender, good for you... I don't care. If you feel the need to hide that I care, only so much as to pity and try and encourage otherwise.
Be proud of what you are.
Having said all that keep up the awesome writing.
P.S. I actually dislike ship-fic, it doesn't matter WHO you put together. I still read it because well... Sometimes they've got the better story, or are used as a way to convey powerful topics or "lessons"
I agree... can't say anymore to this....
Agreed, cheered, applaussed, and given cake to Love and Tolerance should be respected in every aspect of MLP. Pony Haters are plain sad.
Also, a side note, while you say "Judging a story based on who it pairs is bad enough", tho I do believe you don't mean it as not reading something because of the pairing (like for me, being an AppleDash fan, wouldn't have normally read a FlutterDash fic) I feel compelled to say that it's okay not to like a pairing. Flames and pairing wars, tho, is completely wrong. I hope you can get the haters out of your stories, "I might have been" was a piece of jewelry, and I hate to think, after writing something so awesome, you have to put up with narrow-minded people.
Keep up the awesomeness
I personally categorize it as a 'lesbian relationship' to do just that, be a category. I'm not saying two women have any less right to love each other than a heterosexual couple, but I say it to let my mind know the actual pairing of people.
I really hope I worded that right in my sleep addled state...
Love = Good, no matter the gender.
Hate = 'Bad. Period.
Love your stories :D
Seems, like no matter where you go, ya cant escape people like that. love for all I say
Anyone who is biased against sexuality needs to go back to high school. Love is not something you can help; it's an emotion. Emotions are caused by chemical reactions in the brain.
