Instead of Hearts and Hooves · 12:20am Feb 15th, 2013

I'm going to make a list of everything that annoys me in fanon.

1. Doctor Whooves. I've only seen a few episodes of Doctor Who and feel like the only person on the internet who doesn't particularly care for the show. There's more to explore here than "The Doctor in the world of ponies." Let's see more Time Turner here, bronies!

2. Derpy Hooves in almost any incarnation. Derpy has been the poster girl for abuse and angst following misunderstandings ever since that fiasco about her voice (and I like both her old AND new voice), and her character should be more flexible than "the one we pull out whenever we want some feels." I will also never understand where her adopted daughter came from, or why it caught on as "Derpy is a lonely angsty single mom."

3. Derpy Hooves and Doctor Whooves. Mostly, again, following from my indifference to Doctor Who. Yes, I know one of the Doctor's girlfriends was blonde. There's, like, eight billion other blonde ponies we can use besides Derpy, you know? It's more invigorating to read about all new characters used in strange ways than going back to the same old thing. BUCK THE TREND GUYS. WE'RE DEALING WITH PONIES HERE. SO GET BUCKING.

4. TwilightxTrixie/any straight up rival shipping. 'Nuff said. Age old cliche that is hard to get right and very few can pull it off, and I haven't read a single fic that does. Have you? Refer me so I can be proven wrong.

5. TwilightxCelestia. It's a weird and strange concept to begin with that takes the teacher fetish to a disturbing extreme, and to think a pony like Celestia (or even Twilight) is so mentally unbalanced that she apparently puts herself through these kinds of relationships over and over again for eternity makes me shake my head. She'd have gone Nightmare ages ago if that was the case. Several times, if the level of angst is being read right in almost all of these fics. No, the fact that Twilight is now a princess does not make it better to me. That's like saying Celestia was just waiting around until Twilight was legal.

6. Transformation/humans in Equestria/humanized poniesxhuman/anything to do with otherworldly creatures ending up in or interacting with some alternate version of Equestria. I can't believe how many we're still seeing, and some of these are honestly just really stretching the idea until it snaps. I never could take a single one of these seriously. Only a few fics in the Conversion Bureau verse caught my eye, and that was only because they had, you know, actual story driving the story instead of "Hey, I can make a fic where some random people do random stuff in Equestria too!"

Story updates:

Unfinished chapter 4: coming out this Friday.

Metro chapter 16: Whenever I feel like it, but hopefully before Metro Last Light is more than a week out.

A new story set in the Whisper Sun, Silent Moon universe is coming!

A random comedy that I probably won't pull off very well is coming!

More news as events warrant.

1: Are you me?
2: The key word there is "almost." While I agree on your entire argument, I do understand that things have kinda escalated with her. Nonetheless I love that pony to death.
3: 100% agree.
4: 1000% agree.
5: I'm against shipping in general, the main exception being friendshipping, but there are some pretty decent Twilestia stories out there. Or at least one, as it's the fic that smacked me in the face and said that not all shipping is bad. Plus, it's dark as hell. If you haven't already go read Vimbert the Unimpressive's Twilight, Revised.
6: I agree to a point, the exception being HiE. Yes, most interactions between humans and ponies are god awful, but there are some pretty damn decent exceptions. For instance, Quantum Castaways, ARTICLE II, and MIA.

Dr. Who is a generally awful show, and all crossovers with it make me want to drink. It doesn't help that there hasn't really been any good ones, either.

I agree with you on 3-5, though with the caveat that I like Twixie to an extent. Needing to ship them because they were rivals is stupid, though.

I agree with all of these. I mean, #6 is over-used, usually terribly written and lacks a plot. Granted, there are those few that pull it off, but they are incredibly hard to come by...
