My Little Humans: Pigmentation is Magic! · 3:15am Feb 14th, 2013
Okay, so... Rarity is an Albino
Pinkie Pie is perpetually sunburned.
Applejack eats way too many carrots and her body is oversaturated with beta carotine
Fluttershy suffers from Jaundice
Rainbow Dash suffers from either methemoglobinemia or argyria
...and nobody knows what the hell is wrong with Twilight.
Maybe Twilight bruises easily and, strangely, uniformly?

That's... kinda horrible XD

Or maybe she's got what Dash and Pinkie have, both at the same time. After all, cyan and pink make light purple! (Although I'm not *entirely* sure that mixing skin complaints works in quite the same way as mixing paints...)
...
... this isn't getting any less horrible, is it?
While the quality of this spinoff has yet to be seen, I do have to admit that those human designs are repulsive. I can tolerate the technicolor hair, but the skin is just, ugh. Unless everyone in that show has similar skin tones, it will definitely grind my Willing Suspension of Disbelief if no one points it out in that upcoming show.

The current running theory is that they're keeping the coat colors to avoid tokenism. This way, they don't have to take a stance on the whole ethnicity thing.
You know all those people out there who say "humanized Twilight would be Black" or "human Fluttershy is Arabic" and other such things? And the fights that break out when people do/don't draw them that way? Yeah, this would be Hasbro's way of refusing to open that particular can of worms.
Honestly, I support that particular decision. Assuming, of course, every human in the universe they go to is multicolored (like the Doug universe), or it's properly referenced/made into some sort of running joke.
825970 I guess that while I'm still not particularly thrilled with their designs, that reasoning makes a lot of sense and I agree with it. Race related arguments are up there with politics and religion for topics that get really ugly, really fast in most circumstances. Avoiding it is a good idea unless absolutely necessary.
Twilight ate an unfinished bubblegum at Willy Wonka's factory.
Twilight is obviously suffering from thaumatic chromatophoresis, a form of magical backlash that causes the skin to change color to reflect the nature of the caster's magic. And, as a creature of equal parts passion and intellect, Twilight is as purple (i.e. blue-red) as they get.
Obviously.
826703 That's brilliant! Of course, Twi has somehow got it into her head that passion and chaos are inherently bad, and so she normally suppresses that part of her nature. And of course, all that does is make her "episodes" ever more violent and removed from reality (culminating in Lesson Zero's Total Psychotic Break), as well as inflicting low-level sanity damage (expressed as her paranoia and pathological anxiety). The reason she never made friends before Ponyville is that she spent all her time in The Lab, which is the only place where she is comfortable expressing both aspects of her nature at once.

I has no idea what either of you two talks about

(I mean, M:tG I get that, but I know nothing about it XD)
