Not sure if anyone's gonna read this, but I'll post it anyway for some piece of mind.
So, I submitted my story to EQD and was basically told it was unreadable tripe. For someone who's never written anything before, this is extremely demoralizing. I may be able to understand this sort of thing from their standpoints, seeing as how they deal with sifting through fanfiction day in, day out, but this was extremely harsh. I have yet to even read the entire email just because it was too painful.
Not giving up though.
I'm all for constructive criticism, so I'll eventually HAVE to read it all to find out what's wrong with my writing, while trying to block out the negativity. By the way, if anyone from EQD sees this, I suggest being less aggressive, and more diplomatic. Snuffing out someone's desire to attempt art isn't tolerance.
edit: There were indeed some failings in my writing that I can agree with. I will work to amend these mistakes for subsequent chapters, however, I won't be touching what I've posted thus far, unless it's a grammatical issue. Still angry about how it was presented to me, however...
Equestria Daily's prereaders have low tolerances for crossovers, and some of them let their own prejudices get ahead of what would be enjoyed on EQD. You probably got a prereader who was either in a bad mood, a douche, hated transformers or crossovers or all of the above.
While your writing may not be up to the standards of the prereader you submitted it to I assure you that it is not anywhere close to being tripe. There are veteran authors here on FIMFiction who get excellent stories shot down by EQD, and others who stories aren't so great that get in either because they're sequels to stories that went on EQD before they made their standards ridiculous and biased or because they're semi popular sidestorie to Fallout Equestria.
The treatment you received was probably, the prereader looking at your profile, seeing that this is you first story, with a small amount of likes and rejected your story without reading it.
Get some more chapters down, wait for more followers and likes. Keep on telling your story and try again in the future.
They may reject it again, but as I said EQD's fic standards are ridiculous, biased, and subject to the prereader who looks it over.
You're writing is not tripe and in my opinion 'Ancient Legacy' has the potential to be the best Transformers crossover on this site.
825593I may not know what it feels like to make a story,but to me from what i can tell from what you two have said,EQD needs some serious staff guildlines with thier pre-readers,and maybe even replace ALL of thier pre-readers.Maybe even have the adminss preread them thierselfs.Because what they are doing is basicly Story racism in a sense to me.
Please don't confuse 'criticism' for 'insults'. Spending a good hour going over a story is not what someone who wants to do a throwaway insult will do. I'd recommend reading the response and enacting the advice. Post it on your blog if you want so people can actually see what the claimed issues are rather than assuming the reviewer saw one comma out of place and rejected the story in a spew of insults.
847439 I know that, but I wasn't particularly of sound mind when I posted this. Like I added, there are problems with my writing that were outlined which I inevitably want to fix. I'm unfortunately not an english major, so fixing them isn't going to be easy.
I apologize for the post coming off as ranty and upset. But when someone that doesn't have a face derides something you put your heart in soul into, it kinda hurts.
