Tougher Than I Thought · 3:30am Feb 4th, 2013
Wow, writing a dark/horror story is tougher than I thought, and it's been an eye-opening experience. I've had to rewrite and rewrite, but I think I finally have most of it figured out. Unfortunately that means I can't get the update done tonight like I wanted to. But it's also good, because this is a learning experience and struggling through such challenges is important as a writer and will help improve my future writing. (Now my eyes hurt from eye-strain.)
The things that I've learned from writing this story so far is that, indeed, 'Adventure' stories are my forte and I instinctively aim for 'sad' rather than 'dark' if I'm not being too careful about my writing. As frustrating as it's been writing in this genre, it's been fun too. I mean, I had to write basically 3000 words just to try and set up a decent premise for the story, but if I tell the reader what that premise is, in the wrong way, it kind of destroys the effect. So I have to pick and choose certain portions and build off of them, and deliver them in a way that keeps with the tone of the story...
Any-who, since my weekends are usually my heaviest writing days, I don't know when I will be able to finish the story (hopefully before the next weekend), but regardless, I'll do my best to finish it off as soon as I can.
