I always figured something like this would happen, the signs have been there since S1E2. It is kinda sad that people are having such a freakout over the issue, Meghan even said nothing would change.

This is going to be amazing, and we should all be happy that Twilight has reached this point.

Everyone is talking about how it doesn't effect the show. I agree. It's going to be pretty much the same.
But I feel that I need to remind people that it would effect fanfiction in multiple ways.
And sadly for me, not in directions I'm terribly happy with.

I don't really mind what it does to fanfics, we are always going to come after the show and official publications. There is an inherent risk in writing about a living show, and sometimes you get burned.

It's less of a "Hey look at me, they shouldn't do this! Change this I don't like it."
And more of a "There are some decent reasons why people might be unhappy about it."
I liked how open ended MLP was with lore and backstories. Heck, it's not even Twilight so much, as it is the very real possibility they're going to cement what alicorns are.

I get what you are saying now, but my main point is that the episode hasn't even aired and people are claiming the show is over. You are not the people I'm talking about in the blog post.
The people say the show is over, and they might as well be right. At least in the sense we know it. Maybe we will get someone else to focus on now. Maybe a jump to the future or something.
The other option is that Twilight will still be Celestias student, and continue to live in Ponyville like nothing happened and she wont have any responsibility or time consuming jobs like Celestia and Luna have. That i will find stupid but hey at least the show continues. Celestia and luna have a lot of servants, but how much are actually friends? The laid back ponyville goes all crazy and formal when they visit. How will they act towards Twilight and such is the question. If she stays in ponyville of course.
And im still open to the option that Twilight wont be an alicorn permanently.
I, like some, will wait for the episode to air and watch it to decide if i will go crazy over it or not.

IMO I think it's a good thing that they're nailing down what a Alicorn is. Yes I'll screw over allot of writers but all they got ta do is put on a AU tag and their good. In fact, to a point, I think it will make many fictions even better because it will limit what we can do and when you put someone within a limitation then they have to be creative to make it work to their advantage.
If there's anything I've learned it's that people in this fandom have a tendency to freak out over anything. Look at the royal wedding for instance. And just like then, we're getting the same freakout. Then the episode will air, everything will be fine and all that crazyness will seem silly. It's unfortunatly a repeating pattern.
