    D&D "Season Finale"

For those of you who read my D&D escapades, I have just gotten home from my most recent session, which I and all of my players are declaring as the end of a major Arc. A "season finale" if you will, which will continue onto season two next week. I have titled this session "The Darkening Skies" in my usual literary format, and it started as thus...

    Further Adventures in Playing God

So since I last posted I've had a couple of more D&D sessions between endless college essays and job-hunting (which has been putting off the next chapter of ALBHO. Terribly sorry about this, but the chapter is at about 15-20% done. I'll work on it more once finals are over next week). Since my exploits of screwing with my players seem to amuse a few of you I'll make these a bit of a regular

    Adventures in Dungeon Mastering

So as I've said once or twice before, I'm currently running a D&D campaign with some of my friends as the Dungeon Master. Finally, I can be the god of my own little world. Anyways, I had a little experience a couple days ago during a session that I would like to share with you.

So, my party of five this session consisted of...

    Briarbuck the Devourer

When the most recent chapter of A Life Beyond His Own was published, a discussion sprung up about what Briarbuck's stats would look like on a Dungeons and Dragon's template. Intrigued, I took an hour or two and made a couple of profiles; one for Briarbuck when the group first encountered him, and one for when it finally came down to a fight. Just sending this around, in case anyone else finds it

    Sneak Peak of what's next

Now, I know in my last blog I promised to have something up by Christmas. This didn't exactly happen, now did it? Through circumstances entirely the fault of myself Chapter six of A Life Beyond His Own only got finished and put up this very morning, whereupon I went to sleep until four in the afternoon. Now, in order to make it up to you all, I might as well make good on the other part of

Briarbuck the Devourer · 9:49am Jan 19th, 2013

When the most recent chapter of A Life Beyond His Own was published, a discussion sprung up about what Briarbuck's stats would look like on a Dungeons and Dragon's template. Intrigued, I took an hour or two and made a couple of profiles; one for Briarbuck when the group first encountered him, and one for when it finally came down to a fight. Just sending this around, in case anyone else finds it interesting or wants to use it in their own campaigns.

Briarbuck

“The big beastie you two are looking at is named Briarbuck, so I heard last night. A high level monster who has a ridiculous roaming range. A group of four fivers like us ran into him farther up north and got squashed flat before they could do much of anything.”

Before you is a boar that stands far larger than others of it's species. It paws the ground menacingly before letting loose a roar, charging at you with it's tusks down.

Briarbuck CR: 5
Experience: 1600
CE Large Magical Beast
Init +6; Senses Low-light vision, Scent; Perception +10

Defenses

AC 20, Touch 12, flatfooted 18; (+9 Nat, +2 Dex, -1 Size)
hp 68 (7d10+35); Fast Healing 5
Fort +12, Ref +7, Will +3

Offenses

Speed 50 ft.
Melee Gore +13 (2d6+7)
Space 10 ft.; Reach 5 ft.
Special Attacks Ferocity, Consume, Gore Charge

Statistics

Str 24, Dex 14, Con 21, Int 3, Wis 10, Cha 11
Base Atk +7; CMB +15; CMD +
Feats: Improved Initiative, Power Attack, Improved Overrun
Skills: Perception +10
Languages: Common (cannot speak)

Special Abilities

Ferocity: Briarbuck is wild and tenacious, and continues to fight without penalty even while disabled or dying.

Gore Charge: Whenever Briarbuck makes an Overrun attempt as part of a charge, he may continue to move through all enemies in a line that he can reach (rolling against each enemy's CMD as normal). Any enemy whose square he passes through takes damage from his gore attack and falls prone.

Consume: Unlike other boars, Briarbuck is carnivorous, and eats the bodies of his fallen foes. If there is a body adjacent to Briarbuck, he can consume it as a full round action and regain hit points. (1d6 for Small creatures, 1d8 for Medium, 2d6 for Large). Any creature Huge or larger that Briarbuck consumes heals like a Large creature, but can be consumed four times for each size category above Large. (Huge x4, Gargantuan x16, Colossal x32)

Ecology

Environment: Any except Urban (Ridiculous Roam Range)
Organization: Solitary
Treasure: Standard

Briarbuck always hungers, and will attack any creature it sees on sight, goring them with it's tusks until they are dead. It will travel anywhere in search of food, except for highly populated areas. He is 600 pounds, and except for his unusual size and fierce yellow eyes resembles his smaller cousins.

Briarbuck the Devourer

From the forest... came the sound of a roar, and trees buckled and broke as a boar easily four times the size of a pony crashed through them. Smoke billowed from it's nostrils, eyes mad and yellow glowing in the moonlight. Out of the mouth of the beast came the most horrendous voice as it rumbled in a voice that shook the earth, “FEAST!”

FEAST~! MORE CHAPTERS!

726781 I Knoooooooow! I have to prepare for my D&D group tomorrow, and then I have D&D on Sunday, and then on Monday I'm going to do everything I need for NEXT week. But on TUESDAY I should be able to start on Chapter seven, and then I'll go back to School where I'll stop procrastinating. (I work on Chapters between my classes a lot)

Achievement gained!

Boar hunters - defeat briarbuck

726785 Using this. This'll scare the group :pinkiecrazy:

728677 Might want to go back and Double-Check the CR's I have put up for them. I just kind of eyeballed it. I thought of making a third form for him, one that he would have reached if he had kept on eating players, but I figured that there's only so much you can do with a boar before it just starts becoming ridiculous. He would be like, half-boar, half-demon. Breathe fire. Psionic powers. The works.

728728 Well, you have to remember that some of the official D&D monsters were pretty ridiculous (owlbear??? REALLY?), and a Gargantuan Demon Boar Briarbuck the Worldeater would be less ridiculous than many of these.

728736 Well, hell. I have to do this now. But not now. Later. After I do other, more improtant things like cleaning the house and preparing my D&D session.

and yet I know at least 4 groups I played with that would roflstomp briar even at a slight level disadvantage. I miss my glory days. :raritydespair:

944560 Everyone has those groups where the players would just min-max like crazy. I have one person in mine who I really need to kill because he's Overpowered as all hell and currently doing most of the tanking, crowd-control, AND damage of the party. Summoner (synthesist archetype) in case you're wondering.

Ok if you mean legit then it's down to two party's. one favoring tactics on the battlefield (with me playing the military tacitian ranger clarvoyant at the time) and a party of all magics that i played with once it went badly XD

Summoner power GO!
