Briarbuck the Devourer · 9:49am Jan 19th, 2013
When the most recent chapter of A Life Beyond His Own was published, a discussion sprung up about what Briarbuck's stats would look like on a Dungeons and Dragon's template. Intrigued, I took an hour or two and made a couple of profiles; one for Briarbuck when the group first encountered him, and one for when it finally came down to a fight. Just sending this around, in case anyone else finds it interesting or wants to use it in their own campaigns.
Briarbuck
“The big beastie you two are looking at is named Briarbuck, so I heard last night. A high level monster who has a ridiculous roaming range. A group of four fivers like us ran into him farther up north and got squashed flat before they could do much of anything.”
Before you is a boar that stands far larger than others of it's species. It paws the ground menacingly before letting loose a roar, charging at you with it's tusks down.

If there is a body adjacent to Briarbuck, he can consume it as a full round action and regain hit points. (1d6 for Small creatures, 1d8 for Medium, 2d6 for Large). Any creature Huge or larger that Briarbuck consumes heals like a Large creature, but can be consumed four times for each size category above Large. (Huge x4, Gargantuan x16, Colossal x32)

Treasure: StandardBriarbuck always hungers, and will attack any creature it sees on sight, goring them with it's tusks until they are dead. It will travel anywhere in search of food, except for highly populated areas. He is 600 pounds, and except for his unusual size and fierce yellow eyes resembles his smaller cousins.
Briarbuck the Devourer
From the forest... came the sound of a roar, and trees buckled and broke as a boar easily four times the size of a pony crashed through them. Smoke billowed from it's nostrils, eyes mad and yellow glowing in the moonlight. Out of the mouth of the beast came the most horrendous voice as it rumbled in a voice that shook the earth, “FEAST!”

FEAST~! MORE CHAPTERS!
726781 I Knoooooooow! I have to prepare for my D&D group tomorrow, and then I have D&D on Sunday, and then on Monday I'm going to do everything I need for NEXT week. But on TUESDAY I should be able to start on Chapter seven, and then I'll go back to School where I'll stop procrastinating. (I work on Chapters between my classes a lot)
Achievement gained!
Boar hunters - defeat briarbuck
726785 Using this. This'll scare the group
728677 Might want to go back and Double-Check the CR's I have put up for them. I just kind of eyeballed it. I thought of making a third form for him, one that he would have reached if he had kept on eating players, but I figured that there's only so much you can do with a boar before it just starts becoming ridiculous. He would be like, half-boar, half-demon. Breathe fire. Psionic powers. The works.
728728 Well, you have to remember that some of the official D&D monsters were pretty ridiculous (owlbear??? REALLY?), and a Gargantuan Demon Boar Briarbuck the Worldeater would be less ridiculous than many of these.
728736 Well, hell. I have to do this now. But not now. Later. After I do other, more improtant things like cleaning the house and preparing my D&D session.
728742 Ok!
and yet I know at least 4 groups I played with that would roflstomp briar even at a slight level disadvantage. I miss my glory days.
944560 Everyone has those groups where the players would just min-max like crazy. I have one person in mine who I really need to kill because he's Overpowered as all hell and currently doing most of the tanking, crowd-control, AND damage of the party. Summoner (synthesist archetype) in case you're wondering.
Ok if you mean legit then it's down to two party's. one favoring tactics on the battlefield (with me playing the military tacitian ranger clarvoyant at the time) and a party of all magics that i played with once it went badly XD
Summoner power GO!
