Harrowed Crown and EQD · 9:35am Feb 26th, 2012
So HC was rejected by the EQD prereaders.
They explained why and I totally understand. Obviously it means HC is going to be lost in the depths of this site with barely any viewers, but what can I do? I'll just have to finish it and move on.
Now, their reply made me realise something. I was fully expecting to get it on EQD. It was like a silly form of entitlement, and I didn't like it.
Which makes me wonder: maybe I just lucked out with Pirates For a Day and Eternity? PFaD might have hit a prereader who wasn't very thorough, and they might not even preread sequels since they go in the same post.
Suffice to say that this has shaken my confidence in my own writing skill. It shouldn't, because it's perfectly reasonable and the reply from EQD did praise several aspects, yet it does all the same.
Don't feel that negative critisism shouldn't affect your confidence. Not matter how much you've thoughend yourself up for negativity, it will always hit you where it hurts. I know a couple people who have been dealing with internet-popularity for a LONG time, and it still hurts them.
The only thing you can do is appreciate the viewers to do have. There aren't a huge amount of them, but the ones who ARE there truly do love your work. I'm incredibly glad Pirates For A Day and Eternity made it to EQD, because I may otherwise have not found you. And you, Mr. DawnFade, are one of my favorite authors, because you write exactly the type of stories I enjoy. Same is the case for a select few others.
Popularity is like most things; It just takes time.
i know the feeling. i submitted something to eqd and it got torn apart by the prereader. granted, it wasnt my best work by far, but it hit me pretty hard and i almost just stopped writing. but just remember, you cant write to please everyone. write to please yourself, and hope people come along for the ride

Thanks, you two. I needed to hear that. :)
I know I'm a lot late, but you did not luck out. I'm constantly telling you Harrowed Crown deserves more views, and it really does. It's truly an amazing story, though the story telling idea is a little clunky, it works amazing and I love it. I am honestly surprised it didn't make it on EqD. You didn't luck out with PFaD and Eternity, those are just your best stories. Your other stories I've preread (sorry if I said something I shouldn't) are amazing. I know that. I spend a couple hours on this site reading, DAILY. You are a fantastic writer. Don't let anyone tell you different.

I don't care if it was late, your comment still makes me feel a lot better about my work. Thanks for that :)
