ポニコン is Tomorrow! · 11:00am May 10th

Looking forward to bumbling through with my mediocre Japanese skills.

Unfortunately, I won't be finishing my May Pairings entry before then. A shame too since I have permission from Marenlicious to use a picture of Jazz Hooves for it, and I won't be able to show it to them all published and ready on the site! Oh well, I tried. On the note of that fic, I am feeling pretty good about it. It still needs a bit more time in the over, especially now that I've finished writing the first draft with my goal of 5K words to spare. Now I can fine-tune it, adding a few descriptions where I can and flesh out the world a little more. I hope you guys are looking forward to some more G5 ponies!

Due to me putting all my time into writing this contest entry, I haven't gotten around to starting the next chapter of Unchanging Truths. This entry seriously took a lot of time since I don't know G5 nearly as well as G4. Especially since it's so hard to keep track of what with the 3D and 2D shows running concurrently and sometimes seemingly conflicting with each other. I found this very helpful page called "Generation 5 in chronological media order" which was a god send. Thank you, heroes, for connecting the timeline dots.

Rewatching G5 for research, I've gotta be honest, Tell Your Tale has really grown on me in the art department. I know folks were repelled from it for being different, but I will say that even if its cheaper, it looks better than most of Make Your Mark did until like Chapter 5. The writing is still just... it hurts. There is no such thing as pacing in G5 and the longer it goes on, the more deus is machaning everywhere. Luckily, G5's characters are ripe for fan fiction, especially AU'ing. My upcoming fic isn't an AU enough to justify the tag since it adheres to MYM's plotline from start to finish, but all of the building blocks for great storytelling are there. I've grown to like or be neutral on most every character—exceptions being Sparky and Sprout—so you can easily AU what's there to give your readers a great story, be it an adventure that actually utilizes Argyle's journal to the fullest or a slice-of-life in any one of the various locations around G5 Equestria.

I hope we'll get more good G5 writers around here soon.
Some of the best G5 artists out there are both awesome and wholesome.

See you in the next blog!
