The Productive Month of March 2024 – Solitaire and Mother of Wisdom are COMPLETE · 12:27am March 28th

Well, well, well, well, well! Did I see this coming at the start of the month? No, no, my word, no.

But there it is. Solitaire and Mother of Wisdom I have completed. It's a good feeling. Normally, I leave longer-form ideas out to dry and never return to bring them home. This time I have, and it's for two pretty substantial stories.

Solitaire is the special one. It's everything I hoped I would write in a ponyfic: something that explores deep ideas through tough circumstances and interesting characters and while remaining true to the show and its canon. As much as I disliked season five of FIM, thank you for the Sombraverse! It's been the perfect setting for what I rate as my best pony story to date. I don't feel like getting into the themes explored within just now, but maybe that's an option for the future. It would demand its own post, I think, as it's a lot to talk about.

Mother of Wisdom I did mention in my previous blog post, which was, however, more about talking 'sloppy truth'. It has a decent bit of substance too, and I'd like to touch on it. Rainbow Dash is a great character for me to work with because she hits a lot of traits and situations that I understand pretty well. She's extremely competitive and very capable in her chosen field, and she has all the larger-than-life accompaniments: arrogance, self-confidence, flair, charm. This is not me saying I am anything like her, although I do relate to aspects. It's just that I happen to be very interested in certain people who are like her. And it's from those very people that I've eked the substance. In Mother of Wisdom Rainbow Dash is faced with what every sportsperson ultimately dreads but has to deal with: age. She's past it, but she still has the hunger for it. The story is about her attempts to keep the dream alive and all the pain that comes with undesirable inevitability in said context. But it's also more than that. It's about the potent lessons a pony in such a situation has to teach the world. And in this case she realises she can teach them to the next generation – arrogant though he is!

So, what is this post, really? I don't know – just an acknowledgement, a quick summary of my immediate thoughts now that I've finally seen myself get over the line with a couple of solid stories. Will I write anything else any time soon? No idea. I think it's time I get back to my primary concerns, but who knows? We'll see.

Acologic out.
