    Battle Saddles

Everyone knows about mouth guns being dumb, but personally I consider them to be in the realm of "it's obviously ridiculous, so it's a quirk of the world."

    The editing process.

The editing process is: reading out loud, realizing it sounds like shit when it's outside your head, and making changes.
I think now that I've written six chapters I have a grasp on what's happening, so I'm gonna go back and try to make my story less fucky to behold. 1 and 2 are significantly better I think, but idk yet. I'll wait and see.
    That's all.

Everyone knows about mouth guns being dumb, but personally I consider them to be in the realm of "it's obviously ridiculous, so it's a quirk of the world."
I wanna quick talk about battle saddles though, because that's one of those things where it does need to make a little bit of sense because it's not cartoon logic/physics, it's a matter of practical technology. A lot of battle saddle depictions have them along the pony's sides, like the shafts of a cart.

But that would be remarkably ineffective. For starters, it would mean a pony has to fully exit cover to shoot. That's enough to discount it, really.
Note, there's mouth bridles, which I guess make sense since we have seen ponies work with their mouths before, it's a show-set precedent.
I think the most believable setup for battle saddles would be to have the weapons on their shoulders, like where a human would couch their weapon stock when shooting, beside and below their head. To aim, the pony would turn the bit with their head, sighting with a reticle that springs from the bit when the safety is off, and the guns would angle semi-gyroscopically with the bit, so if a pony is peeking over cover the weapon twists with their head over their back. When they're standing/moving they would still be aiming with their whole body, so the gun wouldn't have to slide over their back.
I imagine most weapons would have a folding stock that can be folded up when attached to a battle saddle, and when removed it could fold out and be braced against the chest or shoulder when mouth fired. All in all though, mouth firing weapons logically would be small arms for obvious reasons.
Pegasus battle saddles would have to be under their wings, so they would understandably be lower, but pegasai fight in the air so it makes more sense that they would be aiming with their whole body, fighting like a fighter plane. Similarly, heavy weapons that would be on power armor would be side mounted because they need a lower, sturdier base and could be bodily aimed.
