Tape Deck

In need of any music recommendations? I've got you covered. I actually prefer CD's and records to tapes, to be honest.

Music Recommendations · 5:50am March 4th

I like a lot of music, and MLP: FiM (fan works, specifically) actually got me started on getting more interested in it, as well as directly introducing me to some of these bands.

If you are interested, here's some artists you should check out (if you're not already familiar with them.)

Feel free to recommend stuff to me as well. It would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Custard- My favorite band, at least technically. They were the first band I was a true fan of. Indie/Alt rock from Australia. Yes,:ajbemused: the lead singer is the dad from Bluey, but I simply enjoy the music.

    (Apartment)⬆
    (Sons and Daughters)

  2. ELO/Electric Light Orchestra. (Probably my actual favorite band.) Great 70s/80s rock from Britain with the addition of, well, a string section. You've already heard Mr. Blue sky before, so here's Nightrider.

    (Dreaming of 4000)

  3. Yes. The quintessential progressive rock band. For music that can be deemed "epic", few bands can match them.

    (Yours Is No Disgrace)⬆
    (Into the Lens)
(Oh, and if you have the time, I'd recommend checking out their 18 minute song called Close To The Edge.)

  4. They Might Be Giants. Very unique and entertaining. (Alternative rock, I guess, but sometimes genre classifications elude me.)

    (Ana Ng)⬆
    (Lucky Ball and Chain)

  5. Beck. There's a good chance you've heard of his song Loser. He's all over the genre map from hip-hopesque songs to folk music. I'd recommend most of his albums, though they're practically all different.

    (Where It's At)⬆
(Blue Moon) (Case in point, this song could not be more different than the one above.)

  6. The Hives. Garage punk (according to Wikipedia) from Sweden. Absolutely fantastic.

    (Won't Be Long)⬆
(Hate To Say I Told You So)

Those are my favorite bands. I won't include any more embedded videos, for the sake of your sanity. (There may be too many already):pinkiecrazy:, but I'll list the rest of the bands that I like to listen to, along with a notable song or two for each.

In no particular order:

  1. Devo (Whip it) (Mongoloid)
  2. Steve Miller Band (Serenade) (Make the World Turn Around)
  3. The Cars (Touch and Go) (Stranger Eyes)
  4. Talking Heads (Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)) (Road to Nowhere)
  5. Barenaked Ladies (Just a name, most of their songs aren't inappropriate at all.) (The Old Apartment) (If I Had $1,000,000)
  6. Credence Clearwater Revival (Bad Moon Rising) (Lodi)
  7. King Crimson (21st Century Schizoid Man (Including "Mirrors")) (Epitaph (Including "March For No Reason" and "Tomorrow And Tomorrow"))
  8. The Beatles (Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!) Or rather, the entirety of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
  9. The Go-Betweens (Finding You) (Bye Bye Pride)
  10. Pink Floyd (Time) (Eclipse) Actually, just listen to the entirety of The Dark Side Of The Moon.
  11. Billy Joel (The Downeaster Alexa) (We Didn't Start the Fire)
  12. The Doors (Strange Days) (People are Strange)
  13. The Traveling Wilburys (Handle With Care) (Tweeter and the Monkey Man)
  14. King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard (Crumbling Castle)
  15. Radiohead (Let Down) (Karma Police)
  16. Better Than Ezra (King of New Orleans) (Rosealia)
  17. Jack Johnson (Flake) Also that fantastic Curious George Movie soundtrack.
  18. Deep Purple (Smoke on the Water) (Pictures of Home)
  19. Kraftwerk (Radioactivity)
  20. The Eagles (Desperado, a personal favorite) (One of These Nights)
  21. Coldplay (Square One) (Spies)
  22. The White Stripes (Fell In Love With A Girl) (The Union Forever)
  23. Imagine Dragons [really just the first two albums] (Shots) (Amsterdam)
  24. Franz Ferdinand (The Dark of The Matinée) (Come on Home)
  25. Men at Work (Who Can It Be Now?) (It's a Mistake)
  26. Jebediah (Leaving Home) (Puckdefender)
  27. "Weird Al" Yankovic (Amish Paradise) Well, I probably don't even need to talk about him, since he's been on the show.
  28. The Buggles- (The Plastic Age) I know what I said about "no more videos",:twilightsheepish: but I just have to include this masterpiece. Video Killed the Radio Star (also by them) is perfectly fine, but is no match for lyrics like "They send the heart police to put you under cardiac arrest."

  29. Honorable mentions, i.e. bands that I don't necessarily listen to that much, but have a song or two I really enjoy:
    Cake- Frank Sinatra
The Replacements- Bent Out Of Shape
Tears For Fears- Break It Down Again

I own at least one album from all of the bands I talked about in this post (except for Kraftwerk and the honorable mentions), and I will update this post as I "discover" other bands that I like.
It took a long time to get all those links in there.:ajsleepy:

To anyone who took the time to look at this, I sincerely thank you for indulging in my lengthy post. And if I introduced you to anything you liked, or we share an appreciation for any of these music groups, please tell me about it.:raritywink:

Pity I can't give an upvote to a blog post. Fair number of familiar names and some new stuff, too. Love TMBG, and on of my favorite bits of MLP art is inspired by them:

Thank you very much for you appraisal! That is some great artwork as well.
However :twilightsheepish: except for the hits (Birdhouse, Istanbul, Particle Man), I've actually yet to listen to Flood that much. I'll have to rectify that.
I do own Apollo 18, John Henry, and a collection called Then: The Earlier Years (which include their self-titled first album, Lincoln, a B-sides collection called Miscellaneous T, and some extras.)

Hee, Bare naked ladies, Elo, Coldplay....you have noice taste in beats.

No problem I love Elo and BNL!!

Top faves!

I do have an ELO group if you want to join that. It's probably not going to do much for now, but it's at least there.
It's this.

I'll keep these in mind!

That's truly what I like to see. Thanks.

Huzzah!

I haven't listened to it in years, but one of my roommates back in my old college days had the CD
